2018, October 25: H.H. The Aga Khan attended the 65th Annual Black Tie Dinner of the Pakistan Society in London. HE Muhammad Ayub, Acting High Commissioner for Pakistan to the United Kingdom, said of Mawlana Hazar Imam: "The people of Pakistan admire your visionary leadership with great respect and affection. We are deeply indebted to the Aga Khan Development Network that continues to play an active and positive role in our society under your able stewardship. Through its programmes, the Network has provided opportunities for the local population." During the event, The Pakistan Society Award was presented to Shoaib Sultan Khan, the founding General Manager of the Aga Khan Foundation's notable Rural Support Programme (AKRSP). As the guest of honour, Mawlana Hazar Imam presented the award to Mr Khan. 2018, October 23: World Monuments Fund has honored Prince Amyn Aga Khan at the 31st annual Hadrian Gala at the Rainbow Room in New York City on Tuesday. Prince Amyn Aga Khan has received the Hadrian Award in recognition of his lifelong support of cultural heritage in all its forms. Prince Amyn holds multiple leadership roles within the Aga Khan Development Network—a group of development agencies with mandates that include the environment, health, education, architecture, culture, tourism, microfinance, rural development, disaster reduction, the promotion of private-sector enterprise, and the revitalization of historic cities. Among many board and committee positions at cultural institutions around the world, Prince Amyn has served as a trustee of World Monuments Fund since 1997
2018, October 19: H.H. The Aga Khan is in Vancouver, BC received 2 Honorary Doctorate Degrees in a joint ceremony from University of British Columbia (UBC) and Simon Fraser University (SFU) on 19th October 2018. "We applaud His Highness the Aga Khan's outstanding humanitarian contributions," said UBC President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Santa J. Ono. "In his capacity as spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslim community, his commitment to helping fight poverty and improve health and education for millions of people in underdeveloped and war-torn parts of the world is truly remarkable and serves as an inspiration to us all. "His Highness has demonstrated an exemplary international commitment to address the needs of others," said SFU President and Vice-Chancellor Andrew Petter. It is the first time the two universities have collaborated on handing out an honorary degree, the highest honour a university can bestow on an individual. "It is truly a wonderful day to be able to honour His Highness the Aga Khan, who so exemplifies the values of our universities in terms of believing in education as an instrument for social betterment," said SFU president and vice-chancellor Andrew Petter. 2018, October 17: H.H. The Aga Khan, Mowlana Hazar Imam, has been presented an Honorary Doctorate Degree the University of Calgary. In her citation, President Cannon said "Here in Canada, Ismaili Muslims contribute enormously to the fabric of diversity that we cherish so much. Their superb intellectual and educational background and their integrative cosmopolitanism, are outstanding. Their ethos of working to relieve hardship, pain, and ignorance shapes their social conscience, but extends to all around them. His Highness’ concern for the arts, science, and economic development illuminates Ismaili tradition. 2018, October 16: Alberta Lt.-Gov Lois Mitchell, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley and His Highness the Aga Khan officially inaugurated the Aga Khan Garden, Alberta - The Aga Khan came to the University of Alberta Botanic Garden to officially inaugurate the garden that bears his name. “While it's inspired by other spectacular Islamic gardens around the globe, the Aga Khan Garden is truly unique,” said Lee Foote, director of the U of A Botanic Garden. “For example, it has secluded forest paths, 12 water features—including some that stream into wetlands—and an outdoor amphitheatre. It also has a fruit orchard and more than 25,000 trees, shrubs and perennials, annuals and wetland plants, all selected for fragrance, beauty and the ability to survive Alberta's northern climate.” [News and photos] [Speech]
2018, October 4: H.H. The Aga Khan introduced Karen Armstrong -- author and religious historian -- delivering the Global Centre for Pluralism's 2018 Annual Lecture at the new Aga Khan Centre in London at 7:00 PM London time. He started by recognising the work of late Kofi Annan. The event was live-webcast. Mowlana Hazar Imam was accompanied by Princess Zahra. The lecture was attended by many prominent persons such as Adrienne Clarkson ex-Governor General of Canada and member of the Board of the GCP. Mawlana Hazar Imam introduced Armstrong as, “a person who has contributed in a remarkable way to illuminating Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, and indeed understanding all of the great religious traditions.” He went on to say, “Looking into the future, I think one of the greatest challenges for the entire world will be finding ways in which we can all achieve a deeper understanding of the other, and what makes each of us distinct as human beings and as communities. To achieve this vital goal, reflective, creative, and empathetic thinkers and writers will be critically important. Tonight, we are privileged to hear from one of their most respected voices.”

2018, September 19: H.H. The Aga Khan meet today Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Minister for Europe and for Foreign Affairs to discuss partnership between the French government and the AKDN. The Aga Khan Foundation is also involved in the development of the Domaine de Chantilly, helping this cultural heritage site to assume its rightful place. It therefore makes a valuable contribution to showcasing French heritage and to promoting our country abroad. In recognition of his commitment to France, the minister bestowed the insignia of the Grand Cross of the National Order of the Legion of Honor upon the Aga Khan this evening.
2008, September 13: H.H. The Aga Khan honours together with Princess Zahra the funeral of ex Secretary General of United Nations, statement and peacemaker, Kofi Annan at the invitation of the President of Ghana.Mawlana Hazar Imam thanked the Government of Ghana for bringing together dignitaries, friends and colleagues from around the world to honour Mr Annan’s accomplishments. He paid tribute to Mr Annan’s service to the cause of peace and tolerance. “Kofi Annan fought for peace, dignity, and respect, traits which he embodied throughout his life’s work. Mr Annan was a unique leader, who, as Secretary General of the United Nations, as a member of the Elders and through the Kofi Annan Foundation, had an impact on world events which will be remembered for their contribution to help bring stability and hope to so many parts of the globe. He was a remarkably generous individual and trusted friend. He will be greatly missed.” Princess Zahra, who served on the Board of Directors of the Global Centre for Pluralism with Kofi Annan, also expressed her deep sadness at the loss of the visionary leader.

2018, August 11: President Michael D Higgins hosted the Aga Khan at a reception in Áras an Uachtaráin on Saturday marking the Shia Muslim leader’s 60th anniversary in office. The occasion honoured the conclusion of Prince Shah Karim Al Hussaini’s, (Aga Khan IV) accession to the Imamat, the institution and office of spiritual leadership of the Shia Ismaili Muslims. The Aga Khan’s Diamond Jubilee year concluded on July 11th last. The Aga Khan is visiting Ireland after the holding of the Nations’ Cup at the Dublin Horse Show, the international show jumping competition which was established with help of the late Sultan Muhammed Shah Aga Khan. 2018, June 10: Mawlana Hazar Imam made a historic address to the Portuguese Parliament on Tuesday, 10 July 2018 at 11:45 am Lisbon time. He came to the Parliament accompanied by his family. In his speech he said "Through the centuries, the Seat of the Ismaili Imamat has been formally designated in one or more locations by the Imam-of-the-Time, depending on the requirements of the day. It has known many homes over the years - throughout the Arabian Peninsula, in the Middle East, in South Asia, and in North Africa. 2018, July 8 - Lisbon, Portugal. Mowlana Hazar Imam arrived in Lisbon for Diamond Jubilee Celebrations on 6th of July 2018. Prince Amyn, Prince Hussain and Prince Aly Muhammad also landed in Lisbon. Other members of the Noorani Family are "expected" to join in the Presidential Dinner on 9th July 2018. 2018, March 8 - The Aga Khan was joined by Princess Salwa Aga Khan and Princess Zahra Aga Khan, the eldest child of Aga Khan IV, Prince Hussain and Prince Aly Muhammad. Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall also joined in the celebrations at Windsor Castle. Aga Khan is a title used also as a name by the Imam of the Nizari Ismailis. The current user of the name is the 49th Imam, Prince Shah Karim Al Husseini Aga Khan IV. [More here!]

2018, January 22 - Dubai, UAE, His Highness the Aga Khan was welcomed by His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan. Mabarak Al Nahayan The Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, received Mawlana Hazar Imam today at the Zabeel Palace on the occasion of his Diamond Jubilee visit to the United Arab Emirates. The meeting was an opportunity for both parties to discuss increased cooperation in areas of common interest as well as to review the longstanding collaboration that emphasises shared values of diversity and pluralism, cross-cultural exchange, and global development. Mawlana Hazar Imam commended the UAE’s efforts towards disadvantaged areas and underprivileged societies in many countries of the world, especially in Africa and Asia. Hazar Imam also expressed his appreciation to Sheikh Mohammed for the support extended to the Ismaili community and praised the UAE for being an example of coexistence and harmony, as well as social and economic stability.
