German Chancellor Angela Merkel is to meet Aga Khan

Berlin - German Chancellor Angela Merkel is to meet Jordan's King Abdullah and the deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al-Nahyan, government officials said in Berlin Friday. The meetings take place after Merkel returns from a visit this weekend to President George W Bush at his Crawford ranch in Texas and ahead of a Middle East conference to be held in Annapolis, Maryland later this month.

At her talks with Abdullah on Wednesday, Merkel would discuss bilateral relations, the Middle East peace process and the general situation in the region, a government spokesman said.

On Tuesday, the German chancellor meets Hamdan to discuss developments in the Middle East, international economic issues and bilateral relations.

Also on Tuesday, Merkel is to meet the Aga Khan, head of the Ismaili Muslim community, holding talks on projects supported by the Aga Khan in Central Asia and Africa.
