Annual Walkathons Shut Down Parts Of GTA

If you're planning to drive into downtown on Sunday morning, be prepared to run into some traffic as the Annual Aga Khan Foundation World Partnership Walk kicks off at Metro Hall at 11am.

Organizers expect about 70,000 Canadians in cities across the country to participate in this year's event that'll raise funds to fight global poverty. Proceeds go directly to programs in the developing world and not a penny is spent on administration. Since it started 23 years ago, the walk has raised over $36 million. Last year alone it raised $5 million.

This year's notable guests include: the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario James K. Bartleman, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, Premier of British Columbia Gordon Campbell, and Professor Stephen J. Toope, President and Vice Chancellor of the University of British Columbia.

The walk will wind its way through King St. and Simcoe between 11am-2pm.
