Aga Khan Studs buys Lagardere family’s racing, breeding operations

The Aga Khan Studs has purchased the Lagardere family’s racing and breeding operations in a private deal that includes the acquisition of two stud farms, 62 broodmares, and 74 horses in training. The stud farms are the Haras d’Ouilly and the Haras du Val Henry, both in Normandy.

Linamix, France’s leading sire of 2004, will continue to stand at Haras du Val Henry for the remainder of ’05, although the 18-year-old son of Mendez apparently was not part of the transaction.

"The purchase represents a strong commitment by the Aga Khan Studs to the French racing and breeding industry as the stock will remain and be racing in France," the Aga Khan Studs said in a release. "The highly successful bloodlines developed by the late Jean-Luc Lagardere will bring diversity to the current Aga Khan Studs’s broodmare band and the [stud farms] purchased are regarded as excellent breeding land."

The Lagardere family’s horses in training will remain with their current trainers, Andre Fabre, Jean-Claude Rouget, and Guy Henrot.
