Tips and Pointers

Ismaili Chat is a Java-Based Applet, optimized for Netscape 2.1 and more recent versions or Internet Explorer.

We recommend using a fast computer since java tends to be resource-intensive.

Getting Started

Enter your password in the text field at the top of the Chat Area. A window will then pop up, asking for your name. Enter your name and click on OK.

If you decide not to log in and want to get rid of this window, make sure that the text field is empty, and click on OK.

Otherwise, once you click on OK, the 'Connect' button will be replaced by the 'Disconnect' button, and a few seconds later, you will receive a welcome message.

How to Chat

You type your message under the text Display area, in the indicated Text Field. The message will be sent when you hit return at the end of a line, and everyone will receive it.

Special Functions

Click on the 'WHO?' button on the top of the Chat Area to find out who's logged on. A window will appear with a list of users. To get rid of the window, click on its OK button.

To use the buttons at the bottom of the Chat Area, type the name of the recipient in the space provided, and click on the button.

  • The 'YAM' button is a short-cut for saying Ya Ali Madad to someone.
  • The 'MAM' button is a short-cut for saying Mowla Ali Madad to someone.
  • The 'BEEP' button is for calling someone who is logged on if you think that they are doing something else and you want to talk to them.
  • The 'PRIV' button is for sending short private messages - it is not yet functional.

Some Known Bugs

  • When a window pops up, it may not be the right size, and you may not see the full title. In this case, just resize it with your mouse by dragging the edge of the window until it is of the desired size.
