Community Ismailie in Madagascar
His Highness the Aga Khan arrives today
On the occasion of the commemoration of the Golden Jubilee, the spiritual leader of the community Ismaelie, His Highness the Aga Khan, will visit five days in Madagascar. Accompanied by his staff, he arrived this afternoon at the international airport of Ivato, hosted by the great family of Ismaelis of Madagascar as well as the islands of the Indian Ocean, Canada and Africa.
As it is a state visit, meetings with the President Marc Ravalomanana, as well as the Heads of Institutions are expected. During his stay in Madagascar, he will visit sites in the region as well as the SOFIA Rova of Manjakamiadana. A meeting with the Community Ismaïli Madagascar is also included in the program.
Since 2005, the Aga Khan Foundation has launched an integrated rural development program with the objectives of food security and socio-economic progress for rural communities in the region of Sofia. Moreover, since 2006, the Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance (AKAM) opened the First Microfinance Agency (PAMF) in the region of the SOFIA, Antananarivo and Mahajanga. The objectives of the PAMF include reducing poverty, as well as to reduce the vulnerability of the poor to economic and social exclusion.
