Aga Khan, federal government put $30M each toward new diversity think-tank

The Aga Khan and the Canadian government will each contribute $30 million toward establishing a new think tank promoting the Canadian model of diversity.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Aga Khan, the 69-year-old spiritual leader of the world’s estimated 12 million Ismaili Mulims, were to meet on Parliament Hill on Wednesday to sign a funding agreement for the Global Centre for Pluralism, to be located in Ottawa.

The Aga Khan, whose Aga Khan Development Network is one of the world’s biggest development agencies, has long voiced his admiration of Canada’s multicultural make-up.
