It has taken some time to gather all the pearls
This is how (by bending down to collect the beads of pearls),we can bow down (submit ourselves) to our Lord.


This verse is supposed to be a story, but do you think that it is more than that? What do the pearls represent?--Farmanbardari?


eji jaajo jaajo samudariyaa ni laher
re maaraa man naa manelaa moti laavjo hoji...................4

samudar - sea, ocean laher - wave
man naa manelaa - which are the mind's desires or likes

(The Peer is asking us to) go to the (bottom of the) ocean,
past the waves (and the currents), and to bring those pearlswhich He desires (for us to have, i.e knowledge and wisdom)

re te to toote pan re chhoote nahi hoji.......................7

vaari - to tie
hir - a very fine thread of silk; love, divinity
toote - breaks chhoote - to free, undo

A knot of silk has been tied( in such a way that) the thread may be broken but the knot cannot be undone.



What does the knot and the thread represent?

I am not sure how pearls connect to Farman bardari. Perhaps they may connect to the level of devotion in the sense that she was prepared to risk losing the most precious pearls for the privilege of bowing to the Peer.

Also because the pearls are valuable, she could justify taking time and being in the devotional position of bowing without causing suspicion.

The ocean represents material existence and the waves represent the ups and the downs of life or pleasure and pain. The Peer is telling us to rise above the ups and downs of life and acquire real treasures - wisdom and knowledge.

The knot represents the bond between a murid and the Murshid. The thread represents individual lives of the murid and the Murshid. The message of the verse is that the bond between a murid and the Murshid should be so strong that it should never be broken even though at times at the expense of either of the lives.
