Dubai, 25 July 2016 — Prince Rahim’s presence at some of Day 2’s matches added to the intensity felt by athletes playing at the Jubilee Games. He watched several contests, including the women’s volleyball match between Canada and Tajikistan, which Tajikistan won 25-21, 25-17.
“The support from the spectators always boosts our confidence and the cheering kept us going,” said Tajik captain Farida Jorubova.
One of Canada’s loudest supporters throughout the match was 12 year-old Canadian Qayl Maherali. “Even though Tajikistan won both sets, Canada also played well,” he said.
Another highlight of Day 2 was the men’s football match between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. After losing their first match 1-0 to Canada, Pakistan felt they had a lot to prove.
They didn’t go about it the easy way — the UK scored first and carried a 1-0 lead into halftime. To make the situation worse, Pakistan took a red card early in the second half, putting them down a man as they attempted to come back.
Still, Pakistan managed to put the pressure on, no doubt encouraged by their country’s fans whose passion and spirit has been one of the talking points of the Jubilee Games so far. They scored four goals in the second half and won 4-2.
“The UK was a tough team as they had defeated all of their opponents [so far],” said Pakistan’s captain Ejaz Ahmed. “We had our chances and we took them well.”
Men’s badminton provided a standout match as Canada’s Azim Kanani took on Tanzania’s Ayzaz Jasani. Jasani lost the first set 16-21 but forced a third with a 21-19 second set. In the third, Tanzania’s Jasani prevailed 21-19.

A shared passion for film, music and most importantly cricket brought two teams together early Sunday morning. When India and Pakistan don the cricket flannels, hopes and aspirations run high on both sides.
The match, played at the grounds of the Dubai Sevens, attracted more than 200 spectators despite a 1:00 AM start. The crowd chanted “Pakistan zindabad!” and “Chak de India”, with supporters on both sides joining each other each often.
“We will be playing as professionals today, with four first class cricket players on our side,” said Team Pakistan captain Javed Mansoor before the game. “The Jubilee Games is a huge platform for our young players. We are one Jamat and we will play the game together.”
Sujeet Parbatani, India’s captain agreed.
“We have been waiting to play this match ever since we got here,” he said. “What matters here is friendship, togetherness and the opportunities for both the teams.” The highly anticipated match saw Pakistan set a target of 207 runs, and ultimately beat India by 79.
Pakistan’s performance was dominated by two excellent batsmen. Mir Afzal Baig hit his first century at the Jubilee Games with 114 runs, while Murtaza Majeed, a league player in the UAE, completed his half century with 69.
India started off well but their performance dipped when they lost wickets in quick succession. Still, fans and players alike agreed the experience was worth the early morning start.

Day 3 of competition featured the first gold medal of the Jubilee Games and it was Team Pakistan who won the honour.
“This belongs to the Jamat,” said Myra Nur Lakdawala after winning the 1500 m race on Sunday. Lakdawala competes in track & field in California at University of the Pacific. She holds the Pakistani record for the 3000 m race.
“This gold medal has set a good tone for Pakistan,” she said. “I hope Pakistan runs with courage in their heart and wind at our backs for the rest of the games.”
In men’s basketball, Tajikistan White and USA White displayed one of the most nail-biting matches of the Games so far.
The match went to double overtime with USA White tying the game with a three pointer at the end of the first overtime. In the end Tajikistan won 35-33, but truly the audience who witnessed this one came out winners.
Another men’s basketball match, this one between USA Red and Canada Red, also brought fans to their feet at Dubai Sports World. While USA Red took an early lead and held on to it, Canada kept the score close and didn’t let up. In the end USA won 40-31.
“We know our defence is strong,” said Team USA player Danish Pradhan. “I’m glad they gave us a good challenge.”
The women of Kenya and Uganda — heated throwball competitors over the years — put together a great match in its own right. Uganda won in straight sets 25-21, 25-28, but it wasn’t without a strong push from Kenya, especially during the first set.
Lastly, in men’s football, Canada White and Afghanistan went the distance. While Canada held the distinction of being one of the pre-tournament favourites, Afghanistan pushed and only lost by a goal. The final score was 2-1.
The crowd gave a standing applause to Afghanistan for their performance.

The 2016 Jubilee Games officially opened on Friday, 23 July before a sold-out audience at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Prince Rahim and His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan attended the Opening Ceremony as special guests. The event marked the start of a week-long celebration of excellence in sport that has drawn some 2,000 athletes of the global Ismaili Muslim community together to compete.
The audience cheered loudly as Team Kenya — host of the inaugural Golden Jubilee Games in 2008 — led the athletes’ procession. Eighteen teams representing over 25 countries paraded into the hall with the presidents of the national Ismaili Councils as flag bearers. The energy in the room highlighted the unity and sportsmanship of the Jubilee Games and the Jamat.
“Dubai and the United Arab Emirates are pleased to be the site of the 2016 Jubilee Games,” said Sheikh Nahyan, the United Arab Emirates’ Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, as he welcomed the athletes and other participants.
“In organising these games, you have clearly responded to the extraordinary leadership of His Highness the Aga Khan,” said Sheikh Nahyan. “These Jubilee Games speak eloquently to the wisdom, courage, global vision, humanitarian initiatives and moral strength that have marked his 59 years of enlightened guidance and leadership as Imam of the Ismaili community.”
Remarking on the diversity, respect and understanding of the Ismaili community that will be on display during the Jubilee Games, Sheikh Nahyan said “the Games present an example worthy of the world’s attention and are much admired in the United Arab Emirates.”
Prince Rahim expressed gratitude to Sheikh Nahyan for encouraging the Jubilee Games to be held in Dubai, and to the government of the UAE for their support of the event. He congratulated the athletes and organisers “for their collective effort to promote fitness and camaraderie through sports.”
“I can think of no better way than this and of no better place than Dubai to promote the notion of bringing young minds from diverse backgrounds and different environments together in the spirit of friendship and peace,” said Prince Rahim. He conveyed “warmest greetings” on behalf of Mawlana Hazar Imam “to His Highness Sheikh Nahyan and to the Government of the UAE, and to all who have enabled these games to take place.”
Together, Prince Rahim and Sheikh Nahyan completed the lighting of the Jubilee Games Fanous, capping a global relay that saw fawanees travel throughout the countries of the world where the Jamat is established.
In his welcome address, Amiruddin Thanawalla, President of the Ismaili Council for the UAE urged athletes to remember their mothers, fathers and the community, who have supported their ambitions in sport and pushed them to succeed over the years.
“Think about them all and consider them, as they’re all part of a legacy you write here this week,” he said. “Ask yourself — what will be yours?”
The athletes’ pledge was taken by Team UAE athlete Ali Tamer on behalf of all competitors, and Nizar Matani took an oath on behalf of those officiating the Jubilee Games.
As master of ceremonies, Farah Nasser led the audience through a packed three-hour programme that included an array of dances and other performances by talented Ismailis from around the world. This included a medley of dances from three traditions of the world: South Asian, Tajik, and Arab. Salim and Suleiman Merchant, Farah Mitha, and Raj Pandit joined the dancers in a lively rendition of the 2016 Jubilee Games theme song.
Before attending the Opening Ceremony, Prince Rahim had spent much of the day taking in matches and visiting the Global Village. As he departed the Dubai World Trade Centre he told TheIsmaili that he “was delighted to have been able to see so many of our athletes and to watch some of them in action.”
“I could feel the energy and excitement in the Jamat,” said Prince Rahim. “Youth from all corners of the globe coming together, sharing their talent and enthusiasm.”

Elite football academy trains future athletes at the Jubilee Games

Kids at the Jubilee Games have been picking up new football (soccer) skills at the FCBEscola football camp being held at the Jubilee Games.
Over 200 participants aged 8 – 17 have been learning and practicing the sport under the tutelage of trainers from the flagship academy of the FC Barcelona professional football club.
“The Jubilee Games Organizing Committee wanted to bring in world-class development platforms and other external organisations to work with the Ismaili youth,” said Alikhan Alibhai, one of the camp’s organisers.
The onsite camp was developed as a partnership between FCBEscola and the Jubilee Games. Each participant receives 90 minutes of practice each day during the five-day camp, and their own FC Barcelona jersey.
The camp allows attendees who are younger than the 18-year old minimum age for competing at the Jubilee Games to still participate as athletes in Dubai. Alibhai explained that the initial discussions about including such a programme for the youth came about after the 2008 Golden Jubilee Games.
Mohsin Karani, 16, from Yavatmal, India, says that the camp has improved his game mentally – especially the focus on passing and learning how to maintain possession during the game. Karani plays on his school team in India and recently enrolled at the Aga Khan Academy in Hyderabad.
He was unable to attend the school’s football camp, so he was excited for the opportunity to work on his skills during the summer.
One parent from Atlanta, Fareed Ajani, enrolled both his sons in the camp — 12-year-old Zidan, and 9-year-old Aydin.
“My boys have been excited the moment I signed them up months ago,” Ajani says. “Every night they go to bed early so they can wake up and play soccer and interact with other participants from around the world.”

We have reached Dubai Safe and Sound and it has been busy and exciting the past 48 hrs.
A couple of nights before we left Toronto there was a Firman read in JK, Paraphrased, Hazar imam saying that the young from one country will be talking to young from another country and how that prospect was exciting to him"
Well when we hear Mowla's words we cant envision those moments and what this will look like.
Well we are seeing in action these past 2 days his words.
In the evening the centre opens up a set up called Global Village.
There are live concerts (ismaili singers), DJ, art displays from all over the world and the athletes and families and spectators just enjoy and dance and socialise.
It is truly amazing to watch. Into the second night you see youths from different countries dancing together holding hands, communicating and loving each other Unconditionally.
We are seeing strangers becoming families overnight. "ONE Jamat" is in Action truly here.everywhere..!!
Special message from Hazar imam was read by Prince Rahim. He sounded emotional when he read mowla's message. Lets pray for our beloved mowla that he is healthy and happy with us all.
The talent is unbelievable in the global jamat.
There are athletes in the Jamat who are national players in their respective country and are here competing,
We have athletes who are competing in the Olympics.
Beyond sports, the talent is visible across the different areas, In Entertainment, Media, Sports, Journalism, Art... .
Mowla's words from the firman have been resonating everywhere these past 2 days.
When we arrived Malik's team was supposed to play Syria that evening.
Unfortunately none of the Syrian athletes were able to enter the country. It was a real damper in the event and our hearts and love are with the Syrian jamat.

We were told the Opening was being live streamed across the world and we hope that you took the time to watch. It was amazing opening.
There is a strong leadership and representation from the Canadians here in all aspects, Organizing teams, Media, Volunteers.
Canadian spirit is very visible. The stats are amazing 50,000 (yes 50K!!!) athletes globally tried to qualify for the games and 2800 were selected.
The talent is unbelievable. Pakistan Soccer team has 5 Pakistani national players on the team. Kenya, has Olympic swimmers, UK has a Women in Chelsea Football, US has national swimmers.
Extremely skilled team. Malik's team has 2-3 Varsity players like him on his team.
There are players on the Canadian team who play in the states for their colleges/universities. Highly highly competitive and talented youths here.
There are some athletes who were not able to come because they are playing in the Olympics in the next 2 weeks or are representing their countries in other events.
Farah Nasser was the MC at the opening.
She did an amazing job. The final song of the opening was performed by Salim Suleiman the Bolywood brothers and their special song for the Jubillee games was amazing.
Prince Rahim was at the facility from 11am until the evening.
He was gracious and spent a lot of time at the venue.
We were there when Prince Rahim came to watch the game.
Mebs was close and took a video. Prince Rahim after he watched the Soccer game, went and has taken Individual team pictures with each and every team here.
We feel very humbled and more than us Malik is realising what it means to have a sense of community, brotherhood and belonging with Pride.
We see these youths faces with Pride and Joy of who they are and sense of belonging to the community a Global Family/One Jamat.
I think this is very good for the Canadian youths to see and realise this.
.. Malik flew in on the 18th on his own. Shenaz showed up at the Airport along with the JG Org team to receive malik at the airport.
Shenaz holding a big board saying "Malik the Champion Soccer Player" This downright shocked and embarrassed our Shy Son..
Malik made me laugh when we finally caught up with him yesterday morning.
He said mom wow these kids don't look Ismaili.
These Russians are going to kill us.
It is very amusing to see our kids realise the competition they are facing and seeing Ismailis from the Global jamat.
Mowla we were told had told our leadership that despite the worry that our youths are not regular in attendance in JK, he know they have faith.
I saw a glimmer of this in these past 2 days.
It makes me feel better and I am always nagging the kids.. GO JK, GO JK.. until they are fed up with me. But seriously Kids .. GO JK !!!
Our institutions are not perfect and sometimes we are hurt for whatever reason and we may turn our backs to the community.
We have to remember when we became parents and took our kids for Bayat we promised something and so did these souls who took birth in our homes.
So Kids.. if you are not going to JK.. GO JK! get into the community, stay connected, get involved..
More than the community benefiting .. believe me .. you will benefit far more..
Mowla does not keep anything . he will fill your life with so much more.. so Please kids .. GO JK and get involved and also practice spirituality and moments of reflection with the higher being.in your own time through out the day when you have a moment
Today I ask for nothing else but that all our ismaili kids stay on the path of siratal mustaqeem and do mowla's work.
He really really needs these youths to take our global jamat to new heights...
The young in our jamat are so talented and this is very visible here. The Audio visual, Media Editing, Presentations were all done flawlessly.
I can see UAE reaching out to Ismaili community to help in the 2020 games in UAE.
The sheikh in his speech called us an example to the world of how diversity was being representation as a strength and oneness.
He talked about talent, in sports and other areas as source of strength and necessity in these troubled times.
Hassanali: Shenaz is doing great. She has been volunteering and unstoppable.
She does not have a phone nor access to Internet so she has not been able to communicate. So don't worry.

Shenaz and I were talking to Tajik Women (Beautiful, elegant ) and educated.
These women were telling us how the Tajik have benefitted so much from the generosity and love from the Canadian donors.
They call us the most tolerant and loving jamat.
There is more we can do off course!!.
We have so much to learn from these other Jamats and in many areas and lets hope Canada continues to be that strength.
Mebs when he was working in Kenya this past month, also saw strong leadership and sense of giving in the Canadian volunteers there who have some to help AKDN programs at several other institutional projects.

Paraphrase and tell them that their life's commitment to Community, Faith is bearing fruit in so many ways.
The effects are compounding and exponential. It is important that they know what their commitment, teachings, sacrifices and faith is today translating into.
This goes for all our parents who came to Canada, lived tough years, made innumerable sacrifices, instilled in us the love for the imam by being role models themselves.
The best representation I found was when we watched the Canadian video for Jubilee games. They start with the Seniors in the Seniors Home holding the Fanous and the spirit of the video spoke of their perseverance and love.
So we humbly ask that you share our words today with our parents and tell them we love them and to forgive us if we have hurt them in any way.

We have reached Dubai Safe and Sound and it has been busy and exciting the past 48 hrs.
A couple of nights before we left Toronto there was a Firman read in JK, Paraphrased, Hazar imam saying that the young from one country will be talking to young from another country and how that prospect was exciting to him"
Well when we hear Mowla's words we cant envision those moments and what this will look like.
Well we are seeing in action these past 2 days his words.
In the evening the centre opens up a set up called Global Village.
There are live concerts (ismaili singers), DJ, art displays from all over the world and the athletes and families and spectators just enjoy and dance and socialise.
It is truly amazing to watch. Into the second night you see youths from different countries dancing together holding hands, communicating and loving each other Unconditionally.
We are seeing strangers becoming families overnight. "ONE Jamat" is in Action truly here.everywhere..!!
Special message from Hazar imam was read by Prince Rahim. He sounded emotional when he read mowla's message. Lets pray for our beloved mowla that he is healthy and happy with us all.
The talent is unbelievable in the global jamat.
There are athletes in the Jamat who are national players in their respective country and are here competing,
We have athletes who are competing in the Olympics.
Beyond sports, the talent is visible across the different areas, In Entertainment, Media, Sports, Journalism, Art... .

When we arrived Malik's team was supposed to play Syria that evening.
Unfortunately none of the Syrian athletes were able to enter the country. It was a real damper in the event and our hearts and love are with the Syrian jamat.

We were told the Opening was being live streamed across the world and we hope that you took the time to watch. It was amazing opening.
There is a strong leadership and representation from the Canadians here in all aspects, Organizing teams, Media, Volunteers.
Canadian spirit is very visible. The stats are amazing 50,000 (yes 50K!!!) athletes globally tried to qualify for the games and 2800 were selected.
The talent is unbelievable. Pakistan Soccer team has 5 Pakistani national players on the team. Kenya, has Olympic swimmers, UK has a Women in Chelsea Football, US has national swimmers.
Extremely skilled team. Malik's team has 2-3 Varsity players like him on his team.
There are players on the Canadian team who play in the states for their colleges/universities. Highly highly competitive and talented youths here.
There are some athletes who were not able to come because they are playing in the Olympics in the next 2 weeks or are representing their countries in other events.
Farah Nasser was the MC at the opening.
She did an amazing job. The final song of the opening was performed by Salim Suleiman the Bolywood brothers and their special song for the Jubillee games was amazing.
Prince Rahim was at the facility from 11am until the evening.
He was gracious and spent a lot of time at the venue.
We were there when Prince Rahim came to watch the game.
Mebs was close and took a video. Prince Rahim after he watched the Soccer game, went and has taken Individual team pictures with each and every team here.
We feel very humbled and more than us Malik is realising what it means to have a sense of community, brotherhood and belonging with Pride.
We see these youths faces with Pride and Joy of who they are and sense of belonging to the community a Global Family/One Jamat.
I think this is very good for the Canadian youths to see and realise this.
.. Malik flew in on the 18th on his own. Shenaz showed up at the Airport along with the JG Org team to receive malik at the airport.

Malik made me laugh when we finally caught up with him yesterday morning.
He said mom wow these kids don't look Ismaili.
These Russians are going to kill us.
It is very amusing to see our kids realise the competition they are facing and seeing Ismailis from the Global jamat.
Mowla we were told had told our leadership that despite the worry that our youths are not regular in attendance in JK, he know they have faith.
I saw a glimmer of this in these past 2 days.
It makes me feel better and I am always nagging the kids.. GO JK, GO JK.. until they are fed up with me. But seriously Kids .. GO JK !!!
Our institutions are not perfect and sometimes we are hurt for whatever reason and we may turn our backs to the community.
We have to remember when we became parents and took our kids for Bayat we promised something and so did these souls who took birth in our homes.
So Kids.. if you are not going to JK.. GO JK! get into the community, stay connected, get involved..
More than the community benefiting .. believe me .. you will benefit far more..
Mowla does not keep anything . he will fill your life with so much more.. so Please kids .. GO JK and get involved and also practice spirituality and moments of reflection with the higher being.in your own time through out the day when you have a moment

The young in our jamat are so talented and this is very visible here. The Audio visual, Media Editing, Presentations were all done flawlessly.
I can see UAE reaching out to Ismaili community to help in the 2020 games in UAE.
The sheikh in his speech called us an example to the world of how diversity was being representation as a strength and oneness.
He talked about talent, in sports and other areas as source of strength and necessity in these troubled times.

The Opening Ceremony on 23 July in Dubai marked the official start of the 2016 Jubilee Games. The 10 000-strong audience erupted in ovation over and over again, as thousands more around the world streamed it live at TheIsmaili.org.
If the event unfolded flawlessly, it was because of the huge amount of time and effort that was put into its choreography.
Jenny Datoo, organiser of both the opening and closing ceremonies, says her core team of 12 began the planning process back in July 2015. She guesses that they — together with another 28 who make up the full team of 40 volunteers — each put in at least 20 hours per week on the project over the past four to five months.
That doesn’t include the 40 performers who rehearsed non-stop, and have been working on their crafts for years.
“To me, the show was about highlighting excellence in the Jamat,” says Datoo, referring to the depth of Ismaili talent unearthed through her team’s international selection process.
Each performer — from Pakistan’s shadow dancers, to the break dancers from Afghanistan and Pakistan, to the Tajik dance crew — went through an online audition and interview process.
“The most fun part was the moment you looked out and saw this was in fact bigger than you or me,” says Datoo. She explains how she and each of her team members were blown away when they saw the sheer size of the opening ceremony hall and the number of seats.
The audience reviews were glowing.
"The Games have just begun and everyone present can feel the magic, the celebration and the enthusiasm of being one Jamat," said spectator Munavar Jafferali who came from the United Kingdom.
Parveen Sayani from the United Arab Emirates felt pride as she watched. "The fact that the audience was part of the show made the ceremony an experience of great joy and togetherness,” she said.
“Watching Prince Rahim up close was a dream come true,” said Ayaz Virani, an athlete from Australia. “The opening ceremony was spectacular.”
“It was bigger than what anyone could have imagined,” says Datoo, summing up on behalf of the entire organising team. “Not the show, but the experience.”

KARACHI: With a haul of 42 medals including 17 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze, Pakistan secured second place at the Jubilee Games as the event concluded in Dubai yesterday.
The only country with a greater medal tally than Pakistan’s was Canada, who took home 20 gold, 21 silver and 19 bronze, while Tajikistan finished third with 10 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals to their name.
While the entire 178-strong contingent performed admirably, the highlight surely was Pakistan’s 79-run win over arch-rivals India in men’s cricket final.

The hero of the final was Mir Afzal Baig, who stood out with a majestic 114-run innings, whereas Murtaza Majeed contributed 69 to the team’s winning cause.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s women’s football team, which featured several national players including Malika Noor, Diana Baig and Mehnaz Shah, were the runner-ups in the football event after losing 3-0 to Canada in the final.
In other sports, Jasmsheed Issa captured gold medal in the 100m relay and silver medal in the 400m track and field events.
Shafaq Hasnain won gold in long jump, silver in relay and a bronze in 100m sprint.
Pakistan’s Diana hunts for glory in cricket — and football
Elsewhere, Myra Noor Lakhdawala became the first Pakistani to claim gold in women’s 1500m sprint event.
About 2,000 athletes from 15 disciplines and 17 countries took part in the in the eight-day multi-sport event.

Dubai: Athletes from Canada, Pakistan and Tajikistan hogged the limelight at the end of the 2016 Jubilee Games that concluded with the formal closing ceremony at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) over the weekend.
Attended by Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman, Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC), the closing ceremony of an international sporting event featuring more than 2,000 athletes and 10,000 spectators from some 25 countries from the Ismaili Muslim community and witnessed Canada end at the top of the medals table, followed by Pakistan and Tajikistan.
The competition was held in 15 sporting disciplines at various venues in Dubai, including the Dubai Sports World at the DWTC, Hamdan Sports Complex and the Emirates Sevens Stadium along the Dubai-Al Ain highway.
After eight days of competition, Canada topped the standings with a total of 60 medals, including 20 gold, followed by Pakistan with 42 medals, of which 17 were gold, while Tajikistan took third place on the podium with 26, of which ten were gold.
The closing ceremony marked the success of the strategic partnership between the Ismaili community and the Dubai Sports Council (DSC). “The vision of the Dubai Sports Council is to create a unique sports community, and we do this by creating a sporting awareness among the residents of the UAE. One of the highlights in this is the creation of strategic partnerships at various levels, and the collaboration with the 2016 Jubilee Games is a manifestation of the ideals,” Saeed Hareb, General Secretary, DSC, noted in his comments.
Known for his athleticism and sporting lifestyle, Shaikh Mansour commended the Ismaili community for staging this edition of the Jubilee Games. “The successful staging of these games manifested the true notion of pluralism, team spirit and community well-being in keeping with the ideals fostered by the leaders of the UAE,” Shaikh Mansour said.
Dr Mahmoud Eboo, Chairman of the 2016 Jubilee Games, hailed the uniqueness of the event that rotates around the world. “In the past few days we have witnessed the highest calibre of competition and camaraderie in sports. No matter where we come from in the world, no matter how many different languages we speak or no matter how diverse our cultures, it is sports that transcends all boundaries and unites us all under one common banner,” Eboo said in his closing remarks.
“Sport has a unique way of uniting people, and all of us are today witness to this unity, not just here but from all parts of the world,” he added.
The closing ceremony marked the culmination of more than three years of planning and execution by a team of over 800 volunteers. The next Jubilee Games will be held in 2020, and the host city will be named in the near future.

Approximately 2 000 volunteers from the United Arab Emirates and abroad gathered in Dubai to make the 2016 Jubilee Games a reality. While some were hidden away in offices working hard to ensure the smooth running of the Games, others were right in the thick of things, supporting athletes and spectators directly in a variety of ways.

While the competition was intense at the 2016 Jubilee Games, it was the spirit of unity that won out in the end. And nothing was more symbolic of that unity than the Jubilee Games theme song, which could be heard on the lips of literally everyone.
Watch as Ismailis from around the world render the familiar lyrics “Dream, believe and reach the the sky!” in several of the many languages spoken by Jamats back at home.

In a dazzling end to a memorable week, the Jubilee Games Closing Ceremony was a kaleidoscope of colour, dance, music, photos, and inspiring words.
His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum — son of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai — joined the crowd of 12,000 in bidding farewell to the Games.
Dr Mahmoud Eboo, Chairman of the Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum, welcomed Sheikh Mansoor to the ceremony.
“My first and most important responsibility is to convey the Ismaili community’s very warm thanks to the Rulers and Government of the United Arab Emirates for their support,” said Dr Eboo. He specifically expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai Sports Council and the Dubai World Trade Centre for their support in hosting the Games.
The LIF Chairman also told the crowd that the next Jubilee Games will be held in 2020, and said the process to select a host country is already well underway.
To mark the conclusion of the 2016 Jubilee Games, the fawanees were removed one-by-one and returned to delegates selected to represent each team. Sheikh Mansoor then switched off the main Jubilee Games Fanous.
A series of performances and video memoirs took place throughout the ceremony. The notion of a kaleidoscope was at the heart of the event — a nod to the Peterson Lecture delivered by Mawlana Hazar Imam during his 2008 Golden Jubilee visit to the United States.
At that time he spoke of a “kaleidoscope of different identities” present particularly in the developing world, and “the need to establish connecting bonds across cultures” while preserving a “special sense of self” for each culture.
Eight years later, over 70 artists from Afghanistan, Canada, France, India, Kenya, Pakistan, Tajikistan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States provided a unique and original interpretation of this concept.
“What blew me away was the depth and breadth of the quality of our performers and the fact they wanted to come and be part of the Jubilee Games,” said Sajida H. Shroff, implementation manager of the Closing Ceremony. The performances featured talented Ismaili women and men who were chosen through a rigorous selection process that started a year ago.
The Al Azhar Garden Pipe Band from Karachi and the Parkour team from Pakistan led the procession of athletes. Mazij AlMusiqaa, a group of musicians put together through the Jamati Talent Identification Process, performed a specially curated piece under the the direction of Salim-Sulaiman.This was followed by a memorable beat boxing performance by Mohamed Haroon, which had thousands of audience members clapping along.
Finally, Salim-Sulaiman — who’ve generously given themselves to the Jubilee Games by performing concerts, leading a workshop on the music industry, and composing the Jubilee Games’ theme song Believe — took the stage and nearly blew the roof off the hall.
While the colours of the dancers’ outfits and the backdrops were breathtaking in their variety, the athletes themselves were dressed the same. They entered the hall together — no longer separated by country.
Their message was clear: they had arrived in Dubai as teams, ready to compete with one another. In the end, they were a unified family standing as one.

Tajikistan has won 10 gold medals at the sports games in Dubai

In Khorog held a welcoming ceremony and awarding of participants and winners of the "Jubilee of sports games, Dubai 2016", which took place in July 21-29 in Dubai and were devoted to the 50th anniversary of the ascension to the throne of the spiritual leader of the Ismaili world Aga Khan IV.
192 athletes from different regions of Tajikistan participated in this event. In general, the game was attended by 2000 athletes from 28 countries.
Tajik national team took the third place in the total number of medals won, participating in 9 of the 15 sports Ranked Among 18 teams. The first and second places were taken by teams of Canada and Pakistan.
Welcoming the participants of the Jubilee Games in recreation park of Khorog, the chairman of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region Shodihon Jamshed expressed his admiration for the fact that the Tajik team was able to win 26 medals, including 10 gold, 10 silver and 6 bronze.
"10 times on these games was raised the flag and sounded the anthem of our country in honor of winners, that is an invaluable contribution of our athletes to increase the prestige of our Motherland in the eyes of the world community. Also, exhibitions and various cultural events, organized by our creative team, played a big role,"- said the head of the region.
Talking about the positive results of the Tajik government's cooperation with the Aga Khan Foundation structures in the socio-economic and cultural development areas, the head of the region emphasized the role of these games in unity, brotherhood and mutual understanding in our society.
"The aim of the Jubilee Games, above all, was a strengthening of friendship, unity and tolerance," - said Sh.Dzhamshed.
Congratulating and thanking the participants and winners of the Jubilee of sports games, the leadership of GBAO and Khorog city awarded them with certificates and cash prizes on behalf of Hukumat GBAO and Khorog.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Regional Council Highness Prince Aga Khan for GBAO Dilovar Butabekov thanked GBAO authorities for their assistance and facilitating the participation of athletes, volunteers and the creative team of the country in the Jubilee sports games.
"Jubilee Games in Dubai have become an event that brought together more than 15 thousand athletes, volunteers, artists and fans from 28 countries around the world. The games, since 25th of May, when the sports torch procession from Khorog to their venues begun, achieved their goals. A great merit in this belongs to all the participants of the games, and I, on behalf of the Regional Council of His Highness the Aga Khan for GBAO, thank and congratulate the athletes with a victory ", - said D. Butabekov.
Beknazar Mavlonazarov, the coach of the women's volleyball team, that took first place, said that female athletes have participated in competitions of such high level for the first time. "Winning is always given difficult. We were hardly preparing for all the matches and girls have made great efforts to win the gold, "- said B. Mavlonazarov.
Shavkat Edaliev, who took the first place in swimming, was training in Russia. "I'm 40 years old, so I was not quite sure that I could compete on an equal footing with younger game players. But it happened so that the enhanced training allowed me to participate in these prestigious competitions and win the first place "- he said.
The youngest participant of the Tajik team at the Games was a tennis player Marodbaht Gulmamadova, a second year student at Khorog State University.
"At first it was very difficult to play, because I did not know how strong my opponent is. But when I won my first fight, I felt confident in my abilities, and then I was able to beat strong rivals from Dubai, the United States and Canada", - said Marodbaht.
A 74-year-old marathon runner Ramadon Ramadonov from Ishkashim region of GBAO was specially marked, he ran a distance of 5 km and has received special attention of participants and Jubilee games in Dubai prize.
After the ceremony in honor of the winners of the Jubilee Games was held a concert in Khorog`s recreation park with the participation of famous artists of Gorno-Badakhshan.
