I am intererested in the practical information about the visit:

Confirmed Dates and places of Mulakats

Dates and places of public events that will be attended by the Imam.

What will be the events beside the Mulakats, Order of Canada and the AKDN building foundation.

Beside all the rumours, is there anyone who really cares to give the real info to us, the Jamat?

Last night we had a meeting and this is what I was told.
First of the most important thing, that everyone is waiting for. So far
no dates or venue has been selected because of what is happening in
Ottawa (election). Most probably tomorrow, we should know the dates.

Second, we have 2 registrations starting this weekend!

* One is the Jamati registration, which will include obtaining cards to
get access to the padrami hall, this will include us as well. Make sure
every one of you, including your family member gets this card, otherwise
they will not be allowed to enter the hall.

* Two is our IVC registration, which has already started (), but it will
now end on Tuesday May 24th. This is the deadline given to us, simply
because we do not have much time left over, and we need to allocate
portfolios depending on the number of IVC available per JK.

So, please
pass on the word to all the Volunteers and make sure they register
before the deadline. Everyone is allowed to do seva, they do not have to
be IVC Badge Volunteers. It would be nice if they are! IVC Registration
will allow them to register with us. This weekend as I mentioned earlier
we will have tea and cookies and 2 more surprise items as well. Also, as
we get closer to Padrami, it will get even better! M/K's have been given
a green light all the way! No specifics have been given out yet, but it
seems like we will have 2 seatings in Toronto Didar! We are looking at
close to 60,000 people in Toronto, and 40,000 people in Vancouver. So it
means we are looking at lunch and dinner being served to the Jamat.
Also, the 2nd seating will have JK in the same hall. Whereas the 1st
seating will meet in their regular JK's.

Also, as we are getting more
and more people before Padrami, we will be looking at opening extra
mobile JK's. Some Volunteers will be required there as well. Also, there
has been a propasal of not to take shoes in the hall! This is being
currently challenged as it will be a night mare for the Volunteers to
manage 60,000 pairs of shoes. In the hall, Volunteers will be looking
after Sanitation (no contract to outside agency for obvious reason),
Crowd control, hospitality, refreshments, etc. We will also be involved
with cooking!

One more thing for security reasons, when the time comes
to close the padrami door, the door will not open under any
circumstance. So, if you are called outside, and if you come back and
find the door closed, it is your luck. Even Major, cannot open that
door. Finally, things will move very quick from here! Please Please get
enough rest now, let's enjoy all the festive occassions with the Jamat,
always smile, work with one voice, work together, be happy, and let's
try to prepare our selves to receive OUR MOWLA.

I can only offer a solution for shoes and refreshments, I am sure someone has thought of this:
For shoes:
How about handing out Plastic Shopping Bags at the doors for people to put their shoes in and keep it with them.
For refreshments:
Something along the line of lunch boxes with finger sandwiches and chips (please hold the mayonnaise, it causes problem when not kept cool).

The families can register for their relatives outside Canada for the Padhramni. The registration will be on until probably begining June. The form is per individual. Once the forms are submitted, the card distrbution will commence.

people will be picking up their own cards due to security reasons, and you will need appropriate identification. Outside Canada visitors cannot register on the Web. I will email you the website once it is confirmed. I don't know if Canadians from ouside Toronto can register on the web.

So the cat is out of the bag. Announcements have been made that the Imam will meet his community in Toronto on June 8, 2005 and Vancouver June 10, 2005. Anouncements have also been made to the community that the Imam of the Ismailis will receive the Order of Canada during this visit.

From what I have heard, there has been a tentative to switch the Order of Canada ceremony to a private ceremony where the Imam will be deprived of public exposure and of Media coverage.

This will surely not fly with the Canadian Ismailis. The new trend of secrecy in the Canadian politics seems to have splashed into all walks of life in Ottawa, including this event organised by the office of the Governor General who was so far considered independant of political "magouillage" as say our neighbours in Quebec.

Is there anyone who wants to carpool from New York City/New Jersey area to Toronto with me? I'd prefer 1-3 adults. We can share cost of driving and hotel. I want to leave on the 7th in the morning and return on the 9th by night.

Please reply to my e-mail address: iandiali@yahoo.com

I live in central New Jersey.

Thanks,

In the News Watch on the main page, it is mentioned that the events in Ottawa might be simulcast live to Toronto and Vancouver.

I was wondering whether they could do it across all main cities of Canada. On 7th June not all Jamats will have gathered in Vancouver.

received by email. I am not sure this is accurate as it does not say what happens to Ismailis arriving last moment for Didar nor for Ismailis who do not have relatives in Canada.

1. There is going to be No website for registeration for the Non Canadian Jamat.
2. Therefore the registeration for visitors from outside Canada will have to be done manually in all local JKs, starting tomorrow, (Thurs. May 25th) by the family and friends residing in Canada.
3. Once registered, a confirmation # will be given for each person registered.
4. These visitors will then have to collect Padhramni admission cards personally from the same JK. they have been registered at. Passport or Green Card will have to be shown as ID.
5. It is advised that all those travelling should make sure to get their Health Insurance and also get cover for any pre existing ailments.
6. You will have no choice, as the rest of us, whether you are allocated morning Deedar or the afternoon Deedar.

In order for you to get Registered, following info is req for each of the person wishing to be at the Padhramni.

NAME.
ADDRESS.
PHONE #.
PASSPORT or GREEN CARD#
YEAR OF BIRTH.
NATIONALITY.

This is of interest to people who go for Didar in vancouver..

This information is General for those coming through Vancouver Airport and possiblly renting a car or Staying at Vancouver Airport Delta Hotel.

Forgot to add, Darkhana , 4010 Canada Way, Burnaby

Route 4
The airport and your hotel in (Richmond) is connected by several bridges/overpass, from the airport is the one you need to know it is called Arthur Lang bridge/overpass, there is two lanes both ways you stay in the right lane both times going and coming, on the bridge there is a clearly marked sign that says city center via the Granville st or continue on via Marine drive eastbound

Dont make a left on Cambie but continue on Marine Drive Eastbound until you reach Boundary Road, You Make a left on Boundary Road and Continue on till you get to Canada Way make a right at Hanna Medical Building 4 blocks from Boundary Road to the east on Canada way is Darkhana on your right, you turn right on Curle Avenue, you are there Bingo Curle ave and Canada way

I am very happy to hear from you and I will give you two routes to follow from your hotel to two location and than one from one location to other. Lets begin with point of reference N.E.W.S, Your hotel is in the south (Richmond) of both locations you need to attend is in (Vancouver) 30 to 45 minute drive north from your hotel.

Route 1 From the airport and your hotel is the same to reach the Deedar site Pan Pacific

Both Cambie street and Granville streets end in downtown, I recommend you take the Granville street exit, after 30 mins on Granville going north you cross over another bridge Called Granville bridge to enter downtown, once in downtown, make a left on Davie street from Granville, third street parallel to Granville is Burrard Street you make a right from Davie onto Burrard, at the end of Burrard, Where Burrard street ends is Pan Pacific, the Deedar location.

Route 2 from your hotel to PNE

Dont make a left on Cambie but continue on Marine Drive Eastbound until you reach Boundary Road, You Make a left on Boundary Road and Continue on till you get to Hastings Street, from Boundary Road you make a Left on Hastings street this intersection is a 3500 block of Hastings street, the numbers should be decreasing as you Approach PNE (on your right side) 2901 Hastings street (dont look for 2901 number you wont see it) , couple blocks west of Boundary Road. You turn right on renfrew street from Hastings st and enter via gate # 2 or gate #6.

The National Visit 2005 Hotline for deedar in Toronto and Vancouver has been launched. The toll free number is 1-866-447-2005 and will be open from 7:00am to midnight.
Registration, Travel and Accommodation info is available at www.VISIT2005.ca

The website above is for registration for BOTH Canadians and Non-Canadians NOW. It lets you register for Deedar while specifying a Jamat Khana for pickup of the admission card. The website DOES NOT let you select if someone needs a "Chair". I called the hotline and the representative on the hotline recommended that those with "Special Needs" and their family should register at the Canadian JKs (through friends and family in Canada if Non-Canadian with Special Needs) as they have a special needs desk there.

Lastly, in case you haven't received the Venue info already, www.deedar2005.com has the following locations listed:

What about Richmond Hill JK ?

Also, when do we have to get to the Trade Centre for the morning session?

Secondly, will there be special seating areas for families with toddlers and are strollers allowed?
