Below is an unpublished ginan with the meaning, final version put together with the help of few people. Still open for any correction or comments.

Gur divaa Gur chaandrunnaa,
sachaa Gur dipak dariyaa;
Guraa binaa taalaa mardo naa khule,
todde bhare rehan bhanddaar;
  • ajyaa(n) na saare, teraa panth ghannaa;
    Viraa maaraa dharmi tare, jivaddaa na ddare Shaah-ji …1
The guide (Pir/Gur) is a lamp (light up your path way, shows the way), Gur is like the light of the moon; (both help you in darkness/night, ie brings you into the light from darkness). The true Guide is like a lamp and ocean (he cleans all your worldly dirt with the shower of his blessings & mercy, you are spiritually clean because of his help); without the Guide you cannot open the lock O people (solve the mystery), the box is full of treasure (who can open the lock of the treasure box and give you the treasures so that it is accessible and can be admired. Treasure - ginan the divine knowledge. You will not be able to solve the mystery (understand the true meaning) unless you recognise the true Guide).
Have you still not understood? (Has the religion not entered your heart yet? Are you still not alert? Have you still not awakened and learnt this true religion?) Your journey has a long way to go; O my brother, only the true believers will be able to swim (across the ocean of material existence), O Mowla what do I do with the unafraid people they do not fear (the jiv who is not afraid of Qayamat).

Attributes of Gur: divaa, moon/moonlight, dipak and ocean
divaa: lamp, an earthen lamp in particular (sanskrit)
dipak: little lamp (sanskrit)
mardo: brave people
todde: bags filled with money

Uvaa(n) beddi taa(n) ddubi kudde ayaardi,
ddunge ddaddamaa ddolannhaar;
Kuddaa-kuddaa kapatti marado naa tare,
te to faatte faattann-haar, …………… ajyaa(n) ………………………2


Over there the boat of unbeliever (ayaar - who is not a friend, foes) will sink due to instability; deceitful and unclean minded people will not be able to swim (cross over the ocean of material existence) they will be torn without doubt (beaten and will sink and die.)

Uvaa(n) beddi tare te sache yaardi,
lange bhav-saagar paar;
Amiyaadaa chhatthaa marado varas rahyaa,
jumle hoy-se jay-jay-kaar, ……………….. ajyaa(n) ………………………3


Over there the boat of true believer (yaar, friend) will sail, it will safely cross and reach the other side of the ocean; O people, there will be shower of nectar (ami, Noor), the world will celebrate victory and praise the Jamat (true believers).

Uvaa(n) maher saver medni,
nahi dharti nahi aakaash;
Chandramaa suraj dono nahi,
nahi taare bhari tiyaan raat, …………………. ajyaa(n) ………………4


Maher, mahir: excellent
Saver: morning
Medni: Universe (creation, shrishtti, dharti)
Note: The description here is not of this world (earth). It can be taken as you are in the Noor. Everything is calm and peaceful.

Over there is neither an admirable morning nor a creation; there is neither earth nor sky, there is no light of sun and moon (no time factor), and neither the night filled with the stars. (It will be a neutral/soothing atmosphere, Noorani (spiritual) atmosphere all the time).

Uvaa(n) amrat varse kal padde,
jem gatmaa(n) varse Noor,
mui jivaaddi baabe lothaddi,
ame boliyaa Shams Pir ............................... ajyaa(n) ………………… 5


Over there it will be shower of nectar like the shower of Noor in jamatkhana (Noorani spiritual environment); Pir gave life to the dead O brother all by himself, in such a manner Pir Shams has spoken. (Lazy and idle people will drown, this has been said by Pir Shams.)

(Pir is showing the life here after to the person who lives in this world/earth. He/she is spiritually dead, with the awareness of divine knowledge and wisdom (ginan), Pir is describing the amar life, the life here after)

Thanks for the posting this unpublished ginan, I was in hunt for this ginan for a long time, after I heard in waezs of Rai Abu Ali.

The translation made by you with the help of others is correct, no doubt about it, however I am posting my two cents worth of explanation of few other words, on the theme of this wonderful ginan:-


Dariyaa:- ocean, large hearted person( who forgive to everybody)

Taalaa :- lock : tough understanding on religion, mystery in Ruhani meaning.

Tare:- To Swim, receive Moksha ( salvation) as per ginan theme the meaning of 'TARE" is to receive salvation for soul, so soul does not need to come back again and again we can call it "Moksha" in Gujarati, Prakrit and Sanskrit for easy understanding..

Bhav Sagar:- Many lives of human being (until your soul receive salvation, current life and may another lives after our death call bhavsagar) but if any soul perform good deeds during his/her life time then that soul does not need to come back, you can find many similar verses in ginan for example :-" BHAV SAGAR TARI JIYE" BHAV SAGAR PAAR UTARIYE" E.T.C.

Lothadi:- Body of a dead person. also call Thathadi.

I Hope this explanation may help other readers to better understand this ginan.
