Reconciling Islam & Homosexuality

Post by mahmed »

I am in the midst of coming out and want to know what members think about the issue of homosexuality. According to the Quran and the Hadith, homosexuality is sinful [outside link with advertise removed by Admin] While this seems to be the case because the practice is not procreative, I would like to see what others have to say.

Having lived in Dubai, I know that a great many Arabs are gay but live in the closet. While I don't cherish the idea of confronting the bigotry and prejudices associated with being gay, I don't think living a lie, namely a straight life, is honest to myself and to Allah. If being chaste were an option, I would have gladly taken it. But I live in the real world and cannot lie to myself.

I would greatly appreciate some responses, especially from members who have or are struggling with the same questions. I find homosexuality and Islam incompatible, but cannot seem to do without either.

Thanks!
