Aga Khan's Rays of Light Exhibition Set for Dar - By Mary Ramadhani - 3 February 2014
A MULTI-dimensional exhibition has been lined-up to celebrate 50 years of Prince Karim Aga Khan on his efforts in serving humanity, against the backdrop of a 1,400-year history of IsmailiImamat.
The exhibition named 'Rays of Light, Glimpses into the IsmailiImamat' has been held in France, United Arab Emirates, Portugal, Uganda, Canada and the United States and is set to run in Dar es Salaam from February 8 to February 15, this year, at the Diamond Jubilee Hall.
"With Tanzania being home to several major initiatives, including the Aga Khan University in Arusha, the Aga Khan Academy Dar es Salaam and the expansion of the Aga Khan Hospital in also in the City, the exhibition provides an insight and a context into Aga Khan as Imam of the ShiaImamiIsmaili Muslims," said JehangirBhaloo, President of the Aga Khan Council for Tanzania.
With the themes of Engaging in Dialogue, Inspiring Hope, Fostering Harmony, Reaffirming Identity and Enlightenment, this will showcase Aga Khan's work through the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), said JehangirBhaloo.
"AKDN agencies conduct their programmes without regard to the faith, origin or gender of those served and operates in over 35 countries," he said.
Furthermore, the AKDN's long term commitment to Tanzania's progress and development began in 1905 with the first girls' Aga Khan School; since then the Ismaili Imamat through the AKDN institutions, has built 64 Aga Khan schools and 86 other schools under the East African Muslim Welfare Society, he added.
Aga Khan is the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia ImamiIsmaili Muslims and the founder and chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), continued Mr JehangirBhaloo.
