Origin of the word "Allahumma"

Post by ONiazi »

Ya Ali madad

Does anyone know where the word "Allahumma," translated as "O God," comes from? The word is basically adding a "mim" to "Allah." How did this come to be?

Thanks!

The word "Allahumma"

Post by GMR »

This is simple an Arabic word. It means O' our God/Allah. At the time of tribulations/difficulties, when we seek help, guidance etc. from God for mercy. We say O' Our Allah our Master, You are the peace...Allahuma ya maulana antassalam.......O' our Allah our Master my help is from your side.....Allahumma ya maulana minka madadee.... , as we recite in the second part of our daily Salaat/Du'a (please pardon me if I couldn't translate the Ayahs into English correctly). I hope that this serves the purpose, thanx, Mughal, Hunza.

As we all know that every nation has its own culture. Few nations have very rich, strong and inspiring but some have adopted others' culture and traditions because they are highly effected by their traditions and have a charm for them in it.
