Originally from Uganda- will be visiting Houston

Post by Justaguest »

Ya Ali Madad,

I shall be visiting Houston, Tx in a few days time and shall be staying
there until 2nd November.

I was told that the Sugarland Jamatkhana has, predominantly, momins
from East Africa (I assume that some will be there from Uganda
too).

Can someone please confirm this please and let me know how to
get to the JK from S. Dairy Ashford, Houston - tel local area
code is 713.

It will be nice to be able to attend the Jamat Khana (if possible)
daily and meet people from East Africa.
I am travelling from Europe.

I would also like to visit Dallas, Tx while there, preferably by
bus, since one can see/experience much more that way.
What is best? Hiring a car take a bus?
How do the trains work out there?

Thank you.

Best Wishes.

Yes, many members of Sugar Land JK are from East Africa. Also, Sugar Land JK isn't very far or difficult to find from your location. Unfortunately, I don't know the exact address, and I'm hesitant about posting its location on the Internet.

Can you obtain the number of the local Council office? They will be able to provide you with an address. (If you are unable to obtain the number, I will help you get the address or directions.)

Thanks bcmsia,

I am already in Houston. I received a tel. number from a friend in Calgary, of a friend of that person in area 281 but that person does not reply. Had intended to got JK at least today, Saturday. But it did not work out. I have not yet settled in after the long journey and thought it would be unwise to rent a car directly and drive around before familiarising myself with the City a bit.
I intend to visit Dallas and Austin too.

I had the JK and Council numbers but by mistake left them on the
kitchen table at home. But, they are on Ismaili net here so I'll
get the numbers and phone them.

Thanks again for your offer to help to get the telephone numbers,
but as I said they are her on the internet. So no problems.

I thought that I could for first couple of days get a lift from someone in this area to go to the JK, and also it would be nice to go with someone
to the JK.
But, it seems that I'll have to find my own way. Well, it is no big deal.
I am used to it since I have travelled all the time.

Thaks again.

Best regards and Ya Ali Madad.

Hi again bcmsia,

And, Ya Ali Madad.

I did, eventually, get in touch with my friend's friend.

Ironically, I also got the Council (say the Jk adresses and tel numbers).

I phoned, and at one number they hung up after returning "Ya Ali Madad"
greeting.

At another number I phoned, a very polite gentleman answered the call
and he handed over to another man after exchanging greetings and
getting my details, whom I can compare to a (sad to say)
an animal. He was very rude, very inquisitive about why I was
in Houston and also he wanted me to prove that I was an Ismaili
or else he would not give me the JK address.

I told him that I am an Ismaili and I also have been a Mukhi in past
but that did not help. I had already told the first gentleman my name
and where I came from.
I am really at a loss as to who these people are, who seem to be
non-ismailis themselves, because an Ismaili does not behave the way
they do here in Houston. I have never experienced such behaviour
anywhere else.
However, I could guess where he came from. Certainly, not from
East Africa - since I know the accents of E.A. Ismailis, being one
myself.

Well, I had only one thing to say, and then hang up.

Sad experience over and over again when phoning Houston JKs.
I wonder why. I had experienced similr problems phoning from
Europe (I mean, hanging up of the phones after the Ya Ali Madad
greeting). I hope that the Council does something about this.

Thanking you again,

Best Wishes

I'm sorry to hear about those experiences. Did your friend's friend provide all the information you need? If not, let me know if there's something I can do.

Dear bcamsia,

Ya Ali Madad.

Thanks a lot for your attention and kindness and offer.

Hey, at last I did make it for chandrat. Was there just as the
first Dua started. With my friend's friend.
We could link up at last, just in time.
We did go to Sugarland JK.
I would like to visit KT next. He will take me
there when he goes to it, during the week.
inshAllah

I am ever so grateful to you, again, for your kindness.

Should you ever be in Stockholm, please do look up
the responsible people for our little JK, and they
wil surely guide you to it.
It is open on Saturdays evenings, only. So far.

You will eventually also bump into me.

You take care now.

May Mowla Bless You with HIS CHOICEST BLESSINGS.
Amen.

Humbly yours,

Justaguest

Ameen. Let me know if you would like to attend Sugar Land JK and your friend's friend is unable to take you, especially with 2 majalis(es) approaching soon. I attend Sugar Land JK quite regularly, and I don't believe you are far from where I live or JK. How long did it take you to reach JK from where you stay? I am more than happy to help a fellow Ismaili attend JK.

Thanks again bcmsia,

My friend's friend is available.
We may go to a JK in "KT"(?).
Not decided yet.

It is, again, very kind of you.

I'll let you know if I need help.

Mowla Bless.
