People were very excited and despite the rain people were running up and down the city.

DUSHANBE, June 1, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Prince Rahim Aga Khan, first son of His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, is arriving in Tajikistan tomorrow on a three-working visit, the MFA information department reported.
During his stay in Tajikistan, Prince Rahim will review programs of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Tajikistan. Prince Rahim is also expected to hold talks with a number of Tajik state officials, the MFA information department said.
Prince Rahim was born on 12 October 1971, in Geneva, Switzerland, and is the second of His Highness the Aga Khan’s four children. Based at the Secretariat of His Highness the Aga Khan at Aiglemont, north of Paris, France, Prince Rahim is an executive Director of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) -- the economic development arm of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). He also serves as an Executive Director at the Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance (AKAM). A graduate of Brown University, Rhode Island, USA with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Comparative Literature awarded in 1996, Prince Rahim received his secondary education at Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts. In 2006, Prince Rahim completed an executive development program in Management and Administration at the University of Navarra IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain. Prince Rahim travels regularly to Asia and Africa to oversee the industrial plants, hotel properties and financial institutions, including microfinance program, of the Aga Khan Development Network.

DUSHANBE, June 4, 2009, Asia-Plus — Visiting Prince Rahim Aga Khan, the eldest son of His Highness the Aga Khan, yesterday held talks with Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi. Resident Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network (in Tajikistan) Munir Merali also attended the meeting.
According to the MFA information department, Zarifi pointed out the importance of the AKDN projects for enhancement education, health, socioeconomic and cultural sectors in Tajikistan.
For his part, Prince Rahim said that the purpose of the visit was for him to review the AKDN projects in the country and study opportunities of further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Zarifi noted that under conditions of global financial crisis, projects implemented by the AKDN through the First MicroFinance Bank of Tajikistan (FMFB-T) should be aimed at, first of all, supporting vulnerable families.
The AKDN Resident Representative Munir Merali noted that the FMFB-T would develop dialogue with the government of the country for improvement of investment climate and would finance small and medium-sized projects with focus on vulnerable people in the future as well, the MFA information department said.
The sides also discussed issued related to construction of the Ismaili Center and Serena Hotel in Dushanbe.
We will recall that Prince Rahim arrived in Dushanbe on June 2 at a start of a five-day visit to Central Asia, which also includes Kyrgyzstan. During his first visit to Central Asia, Prince Rahim Aga Khan will meet with government officials and review current and planned projects of the AKDN.

On arrival in Khorog, Prince Rahim went to the Ishkashim district, where he got acquainted with activity of the branch of the First MicroFinance Bank (FMFB) in the district and reviewed projects of the Mountain Societies Development Support Program (MSDSP) of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) there. The same day, Prince Rahim visited FMFB’s branch in Khorog, the campus of the School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) of the University of Central Asia (UCA) in Khorog and the Khorog Central Park that is being rehabilitated under financial support of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). Yesterday afternoon, Prince Rahim Aga Khan also visited the Pamir Energy Economy (PamirEnergy) and the Pamir-1 hydropower plant as well as reviewed a number of the AKDN projects in other districts of the region.

The discussions during this meeting focused on implementation of the Aga Khan Foundation projects on development of mountainous regions, mini-loans for the population, early childhood development programs, the governor’s spokesman said.
Aaly Karashev thanked the Prince for assistance provided under the bilateral agreements and proposed cooperation in agricultural processing, including diary products and honey.
