Mukhi / Kamadia Meaning

Post by kmaherali »

According to the Haji Bibi case proceedings where every aspect of our traditions were made public, the definitions of Mukhi and Kamadia were given as:

Mukhi is the treasurer or steward
Kamadia is the accountant

I believe that was their tradional role defined by the Pir when the JamatKhanas were established.

kmaherali,
I always thought the Mukhi was the accountant and would look
over all the financial aspects of the jamat and the Kamadia
would be the treasurer? :s
can you send me the ginan where it says that the Mukhi is the
treasurer. Thanks

As I mentioned, I got the information from the proceedings of the Haji Bibi case which are now available as public records. You may want to read the whole document at:

It is an interesting case because it established and legitimised the authority of the Imam from a legalistic point of view.
