>>->====>NEW BOOK<====<-<<

The IIS has just launched The Ismailis: An Illustrated History which was authored and edited by Dr. Farhad Daftary and Dr. Zulfikar Hirji (Class of 1997). Dr. Hirji is currently Assistant Professor of Anthropology at York University, Toronto. Other IIS alumni who were involved with the book were Dr. Fahmida Suleman (Class of 1997), Dr. Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga (Class of 2000) and Alnoor Merchant (Class of 1987).

The Illustrated History is based on the most recent academic research on Ismaili and Islamic history, and is meant for the general reader. The book has four main chapters that take the reader from the advent of Islam and the formation of the Shi‘a through to the historical developments that led to the formation of the Ismailis and their history up until the present-day. Each chapter contains a synopsis, maps and chronology of key events, as well as special sections devoted to important figures, themes and events in Islamic, Shi‘i and Ismaili history. Many of the beautiful images of manuscripts and objects in the book are found in private and public collections, and some are here published for the first time. The book also narrates the history of the Ismailis using contemporary and historical photographs of places and landscapes.

When Zul was asked about the book he commented that, ‘When I conceptualized the book, I imagined taking the reader on a journey through time, across continents, over valleys and mountains, and between oceans. I wanted readers to imagine themselves walking through the city of Cairo, feeling the isolation and majesty of living in a fort or castle perched on the roof of the world, and sailing across the ocean to a new frontier. Ismaili history for me is very much about constant movement and the ever-evolving understanding of faith and the meaning of life. To capture this spirit of movement, the book often juxtaposes materials from a variety of sources in different formats. The production of the book has itself been a journey of discovery. In the process, we have found new materials on Ismaili history, particularly in terms of manuscripts, objects and photographs, and re-thought the role and place of extant materials.

Does anyone know who this Jim Davis is? I have been unable to find a bio on him. No one seems to know who Jim Davis is.
I have been directed to webpages of books by Jim, but there is absolutely no info on Jim's background. How can this be? And why would Jim want to hide?

Here, I think, I have found his website of Jim Davis based on Ismailsm. This scholar is seriously interested in Ismailism doctrine and their history; even thought, he has wrote number of books.

Here visit his websites which I have found during my search on him are:

That is EXACTLY what I meant, none of the links tells you anything about Jim's background, what kind of scholar writes about Ismailsm without introducing himself? I don't mean that he writes anything wrong. What I am saying is find me a bio on Jim Davis. Who exactly knows Jim Davis? You read about his writing but not about him. WHY? I mean look at all books written on Ismailism. We know who wrote them, even if they were written hundreds of years ago. But Jim Davis is a mystery!
You can find a lot of links on Jim's books, but none that will tell you about this "seriously interested scholar" as you put it.

I think he might be a new Ismaili scholar, that is why we don't know much about him yet nor his biography, but may be later on Inshallah once he continue writing more books on Ismailism. The more good books he write, he more people getting to know him better. I think you might know a little about him only if you purchase his books, I mean in his books, there might be his introduction on Ismailism, for example how does he write he book and why is he interested in Ismailism theology etc.

Had not visited the forums in a while and noticed the discussion about myself on this board. I will give a brief bio.

I am a 49 year Euro-American male living in SW Missouri USA. I have been studying Ismailism for over a decade and have written many essays and poems on the topic. I defend the Ismaili faith wherever I see it malaigned. I have run a mailing list devoted to Ismailism for a decade. I work in the field of community mental health as a community support worker. My degree is in social work but have been attempting a Masters in Religious studies off and on.

Jim Davis writes:"Anyone who wishes to contact me feel free to write me at from_alamut@yahoo.com "

So lets get this clarified: Is "Jim Davis" and "from_alamu"t the same person?

Omg, my brother Al-azhar LOL, I am not that person Jim Davis. Don't confuse yourself just over our user names on net. Well, actually we both have the same e-mail address, nick names and different name, but it doesn't meant I am him and he is me or we are same person!. Any ways, my name is "Ahmad". He Jim Davis is a writer who writes books and I am an Ismaili Muslim. Please try to contact Jim Davis and clarify him here. My e-mail address is "From_Alamut@live.ca"....

Kindest Regard ,and best wishes ,and happy NEW YEAR.

I have figured this out and know exactly who is who and who has the same email address, nick names, etc. It's good to be truth full in this world.
