SAT PA(N)TH VAHOREE VIRAA ALAGAA NA RAHI-E
BY PEER SHAMSH
eji sat pa(n)th vahoree viraa alagaa na rahiye
noor piyo mukhe jutthu na kahiye..............................1

vahoree - having adopted, internalised by conviction
viraa - brothers
algaa - aloof

O momins, having adopted the True Path, oh brothers, do not remain aloof from it.
The mouth by which you drink the holy water should not be used to tell falsehood.

eji jenne upaayaa ane jenne neepaayaa

eji maaru maaru karataa(n) janam gumaavee-o
hiralo sareekho aa maankho ddubaavee-o........................3

maaru maaru - greed of possession
janam - whole life gumaavee-o - lost
hirla - diamond maankho - human birth
ddubaavee-o - lose of drowning

O momins, the whole life is wasted in the greed of material possessions.
The human birth which is as valuable as a diamond is lost through drowning
(in the ocean of material life).

eji aavo maaraa motee naa vahepaaree
motee vora(n)taa vahaalu vastu visaaree.......................4

vahepaaree - dealers vora(n)taa - in dealing
vahaalu - dear visaaree - left, forgotten

O momins, come o dealers of pearls(spiritually valuable goods e.g.,
Divine knowledge and wisdom); seeking these pearls through search and
meditation one forgets the wordly attachments which are dear to oneself.

eji bhulee chhe duniyaa ne maram na jaanne
alakh neeree(n)jan imaam na peechhaanne.......................5

bhulee - gone astray maram - essence, secrets, mysteries
alakh - indescriptible neereenjan - unknowable,unseen

O momins, the worldly people have gotten astray and have not known the essence
(of salvation); having not recognised the indescriptible and unknown(to them) Imaam.

eji bhanne peer shamsh tame chetine chaalo
faree faree aavo maanakho nahi maalo..........................6

O momins, Peer Shamsh admonishes: take care of yourselves and be vigilant; you
will not get this opportunity of human birth again and again.

eji aare kaayaa taaree fulanako bhaaro
nathee re ugarvaano eke aaro..................................7

aare - oh this kaayaa - material bodily existence
fulanako - of flowers bhaaro - a bunch
aaro - shore, means of escape ugarvaano - for collection?

O momins, this bodily material existence is just like a bunch of fresh flowers. There
is not a single means of saving them(their freshness from getting withered).

The duration of life is just like a bunch of flowers. the freshness with it's sweet fragrance
gets used up drop by drop until it is all withered, stale, dead and lost. it's only utility while
still fresh and fragrant, is to fill your nostrils with the sweetness, drenching your spirit with happiness.
Breathe in it's sweet fragrance or not, the freshness is going to die. You cannot spare it.
So we are in our life. The seconds and minutes of which it is comprised, pass away,
unceasingly, into eternity and are lost for ever - used or unused. There is no way to save
them or spare them. But if we fill up these seconds and minutes with love of our Hazar Imaam;
utilise them in acts of His pleasure and pass them under His obedience, they will be full of our
spiritual happiness. If they are thus utilised, they are worthily spent, otherwise they are lost without any profit.

eji daan pun dejo viraa supaatre joi
pujaa naa fall tame lee-ore soi...............................8

daan pun - religious dues(tithe) supaatre - the right receiver

I remember very well listening to a tape of a Farman by Hazar Imam where he referes to it as "Nyaj".

The reason I remember so well is that it struck me at that time that instead of pronouncing Nyaz as usual the Imam pronounced that day "Nyadj" with a VERY heavy accent on the "j" like an indian person would pronounce :-)

So definately "Nyaj" is to be added to the list.

Also I think the Quran or the Hadith says that some of us licky ones will be given the water of Kausar, that should probably be Nyaz, right? In any case, you probably know the Farman about Hazzrat Ali that will give the Kausar Water to the Murid...

Imam SMS farman Book Gavhare Rehmat has a section on Mowla's Farmans about Niyaz.

The Quran mentions abe zamzam but I am not sure if that is comparable.

002.060 And remember Moses prayed for water for his people; We said: "Strike the rock with thy staff." Then gushed forth therefrom twelve springs. Each group knew its own place for water. So eat and drink of the sustenance provided by God, and do no evil nor mischief on the (face of the) earth.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
002.071 He said: "He says: A heifer not trained to till the soil or water the fields; sound and without blemish." They said: "Now hast thou brought the truth." Then they offered her in sacrifice, but not with good-will.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
002.074 Thence forth were your hearts hardened: They became like a rock and even worse in hardness. For among rocks there are some from which rivers gush forth; others there are which when split asunder send forth water; and others which sink for fear of God. And God is not unmindful of what ye do.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
002.249 When Talut set forth with the armies, he said: "God will test you at the stream: if any drinks of its water, He goes not with my army: Only those who taste not of it go with me: A mere sip out of the hand is excused." but they all drank of it, except a few. When they crossed the river,- He and the faithful ones with him,-they said: "This day We cannot cope with Goliath and his forces." but those who were convinced that they must meet God, said: "How oft, by God's will, Hath a small force vanquished a big one? God is with those who steadfastly persevere."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
004.043 O ye who believe! Approach not prayers with a mind befogged, until ye can understand all that ye say,- nor in a state of ceremonial impurity (Except when travelling on the road), until after washing your whole body. If ye are ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women, and ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands. For God doth blot out sins and forgive again and again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
005.006 O ye who believe! when ye prepare for prayer, wash your faces, and your hands (and arms) to the elbows; Rub your heads (with water); and (wash) your feet to the ankles. If ye are in a state of ceremonial impurity, bathe your whole body. But if ye are ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women, and ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands, God doth not wish to place you in a difficulty, but to make you clean, and to complete his favour to you, that ye may be grateful.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
005.096 Lawful to you is the pursuit of water-game and its use for food,- for the benefit of yourselves and those who travel; but forbidden is the pursuit of land-game;- as long as ye are in the sacred precincts or in pilgrim garb. And fear God, to Whom ye shall be gathered back.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
006.070 Leave alone those who take their religion to be mere play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world. But proclaim (to them) this (truth):that every soul delivers itself to ruin by its own acts: it will find for itself no protector or intercessor except God: if it offered every ransom, (or reparation), none will be accepted: such is (the end of) those who deliver themselves to ruin by their own acts: they will have for drink (only) boiling water, and for punishment, one most grievous: for they persisted in rejecting God.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
007.050 The Companions of the Fire will call to the Companions of the Garden: "Pour down to us water or anything that God doth provide for your sustenance." They will say: "Both these things hath God forbidden to those who rejected Him."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
007.160 We divided them into twelve tribes or nations. We directed Moses by inspiration, when his (thirsty) people asked him for water: "Strike the rock with thy staff": out of it there gushed forth twelve springs: Each group knew its own place for water. We gave them the shade of clouds, and sent down to them manna and quails, (saying): "Eat of the good things We have provided for you": (but they rebelled); to Us they did no harm, but they harmed their own souls.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
011.007 He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days - and His Throne was over the waters - that He might try you, which of you is best in conduct. But if thou wert to say to them, "Ye shall indeed be raised up after death", the Unbelievers would be sure to say, "This is nothing but obvious sorcery!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
011.043 The son replied: "I will betake myself to some mountain: it will save me from the water." Noah said: "This day nothing can save, from the command of God, any but those on whom He hath mercy! "And the waves came between them, and the son was among those overwhelmed in the Flood.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
011.044 Then the word went forth: "O earth! swallow up thy water, and O sky! Withhold (thy rain)!" and the water abated, and the matter was ended. The Ark rested on Mount Judi, and the word went forth: "Away with those who do wrong!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
011.098 He will go before his people on the Day of Judgment, and lead them into the Fire (as cattle are led to water): But woeful indeed will be the place to which they are led!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
012.019 Then there came a caravan of travellers: they sent their water carrier (for water), and he let down his bucket (into the well)...He said: "Ah there! Good news! Here is a (fine) young man!" So they concealed him as a treasure! But God knoweth well all that they do!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
012.049 "Then will come after that (period) a year in which the people will have abundant water, and in which they will press (wine and oil)."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
013.004 And in the earth are tracts (diverse though) neighbouring, and gardens of vines and fields sown with corn, and palm trees - growing out of single roots or otherwise: watered with the same water, yet some of them We make more excellent than others to eat. Behold, verily in these things there are signs for those who understand!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
013.014 For Him (alone) is prayer in Truth: any others that they call upon besides Him hear them no more than if they were to stretch forth their hands for water to reach their mouths but it reaches them not: for the prayer of those without Faith is nothing but (futile) wandering (in the mind).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13.017 He sends down water from the skies, and the channels flow, each according to its measure: But the torrent bears away to foam that mounts up to the surface. Even so, from that (ore) which they heat in the fire, to make ornaments or utensils therewith, there is a scum likewise. Thus doth God (by parables) show forth Truth and Vanity. For the scum disappears like forth cast out; while that which is for the good of mankind remains on the earth. Thus doth God set forth parables.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
014.016 In front of such a one is Hell, and he is given, for drink, boiling fetid water.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
015.022 And We send the fecundating winds, then cause the rain to descend from the sky, therewith providing you with water (in abundance), though ye are not the guardians of its stores.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
015.045 The righteous (will be) amid gardens and fountains (of clear-flowing water).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
017.091 "Or (until) thou have a garden of date trees and vines, and cause rivers to gush forth in their midst, carrying abundant water;

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
018.029 Say, "The truth is from your Lord": Let him who will believe, and let him who will, reject (it): for the wrong-doers We have prepared a Fire whose (smoke and flames), like the walls and roof of a tent, will hem them in: if they implore relief they will be granted water like melted brass, that will scald their faces, how dreadful the drink! How uncomfortable a couch to recline on!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
018.041 "Or the water of the garden will run off underground so that thou wilt never be able to find it."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
018.079 "As for the boat, it belonged to certain men in dire want: they plied on the water: I but wished to render it unserviceable, for there was after them a certain king who seized on every boat by force.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
018.086 Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it set in a spring of murky water: Near it he found a People: We said: "O Zul qarnain! (thou hast authority,) either to punish them, or to treat them with kindness."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
019.086 And We shall drive the sinners to Hell, like thirsty cattle driven down to water,-

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
020.053 "He Who has, made for you the earth like a carpet spread out; hasenabled you to go about therein by roads (and channels); and has sent down water from the sky." With it have We produced diverse pairs of plants each separate from the others.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
020.078 Then Pharaoh pursued them with his forces, but the waters completely overwhelmed them and covered them up.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
021.030 Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
022.019 These two antagonists dispute with each other about their Lord: Butthose who deny (their Lord),- for them will be cut out a garment of Fire: overtheir heads will be poured out boiling water.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
023.018 And We send down water from the sky according to (due) measure, and We cause it to soak in the soil; and We certainly are able to drain it off (with ease).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
024.039 But the Unbelievers,- their deeds are like a mirage in sandy deserts, which the man parched with thirst mistakes for water; until when he comes up to it, he finds it to be nothing: But he finds God (ever) with him, and God will pay him his account: and God is swift in taking account.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
024.045 And God has created every animal from water: of them there are some that creep on their bellies; some that walk on two legs; and some that walk on four. God creates what He wills for verily God has power over all things.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
025.048 And He it is Who sends the winds as heralds of glad tidings, going before His mercy, and We send down pure water from the sky,-

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
025.050 And We have distributed the (water) amongst them, in order that they may celebrate (our) praises, but most men are averse (to aught) but (rank)ingratitude.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
025.053 It is He Who has let free the two bodies of flowing water: One palatable and sweet, and the other salt and bitter; yet has He made a barrier between them, a partition that is forbidden to be passed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
025.054 It is He Who has created man from water: then has He established relationships of lineage and marriage: for thy Lord has power (over all things).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
026.155 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
027.044 She was asked to enter the lofty Palace: but when she saw it, she
thought it was a lake of water, and she (tucked up her skirts), uncovering her legs. He said: "This is but a palace paved smooth with slabs of glass." She said: "O my Lord! I have indeed wronged my soul: I do (now) submit (in Islam), with Solomon, to the Lord of the Worlds."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
027.061 Or, Who has made the earth firm to live in; made rivers in its midst; set thereon mountains immovable; and made a separating bar between the two bodies of flowing water? (can there be another) god besides God? Nay, most of them know not.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
028.023 And when he arrived at the watering (place) in Madyan, he found there a group of men watering (their flocks), and besides them he found two women who were keeping back (their flocks). He said: "What is the matter with you?" They said: "We cannot water (our flocks) until the shepherds take back (their flocks): And our father is a very old man."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
028.024 So he watered (their flocks) for them; then he turned back to the shade, and said:"O my Lord! truly am I in (desperate) need of any good that Thou dost send me!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
028.025 Afterwards one of the (damsels) came (back) to him, walking bashfully. She said: "My father invites thee that he may reward thee for having watered (our flocks) for us." So when he came to him and narrated the story, he said:"Fear thou not: (well) hast thou escaped from unjust people."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
029.040 Each one of them We seized for his crime: of them, against some We sent a violent tornado (with showers of stones); some were caught by a (mighty) Blast; some We caused the earth to swallow up; and some We drowned (in the waters): It was not God Who injured (or oppressed) them:" They injured (and oppressed) their own souls.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
035.012 Nor are the two bodies of flowing water alike,- the one palatable, sweet, and pleasant to drink, and the other, salt and bitter. Yet from each(kind of water) do ye eat flesh fresh and tender, and ye extract ornaments to wear; and thou seest the ships therein that plough the waves, that ye may seek (thus) of the Bounty of God that ye may be grateful.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
037.067 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
038.042 (The command was given:) "Strike with thy foot: here is (water) wherein to wash, cool and refreshing, and (water) to drink."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
044.046 Like the boiling of scalding water.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
044.048 "Then pour over his head the Penalty of Boiling Water,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
047.015 (Here is) a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised: in it are rivers of water incorruptible; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine, a joy to those who drink; and rivers of honey pure and clear. In it there are for them all kinds of fruits; and Grace from their Lord. (Can those in such Bliss) be compared to such as shall dwell for ever in the Fire, and be given, to drink, boiling water, so that it cuts up their bowels (to pieces)?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
054.011 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
054.012 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
054.028 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
055.019 He has let free the two bodies of flowing water, meeting together:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
055.044 In its midst and in the midst of boiling hot water will they wander
round!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
055.064 Dark-green in colour (from plentiful watering).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
055.066 In them (each) will be two Springs pouring forth water in continuous abundance:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
056.031 By water flowing constantly,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
056.042 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling
Water,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
056.054 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
056.068 See ye the water which ye drink?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
056.093 For him is Entertainment with Boiling Water.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
067.030 Say: "See ye?- If your stream be some morning lost (in the underground earth), who then can supply you with clear-flowing water?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
069.011 We, when the water (of Noah's Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark),

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
071.012 "'Give you increase in wealth and sons; and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers (of flowing water).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
077.027 And made therein mountains standing firm, lofty (in stature); and provided for you water sweet (and wholesome)?-

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
077.041 As to the Righteous, they shall be amidst (cool) shades and springs (of water).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
078.014 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
080.025 For that We pour forth water in abundance,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
083.028 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to God.

Niyadj v/s abe shafa

Post by shamsu »

Reference Abualy Waez:

Imam Aga Alyshah stated in Wadi Jamatkhana that Abe Sifa(Niyadj) is that which we drink before ghatpat uthapanji. After that it is Abe Shafa.

Niyadj if you drink with 100% Iman cleanses the Heart and Abe Shafa cures bodily illnesses.

Imam SMS has also stated that if Iman is "pura" then if you have coal in your hand and you drink Niyadj it will turn white.

I think reflection will helps us reach the esoteric meaning.

Shams
Ya Ali Madad brother Shams,

Excellent topic and references!

Compare above with this:

The prophet Mohammed [PBUH&F] said,
"The water of Zamzam fulfils the purpose for which it has been drunk"[Refer to Misnad Ahmed].

A man from Yemen was fond of reading Quran from a small Mushaf. As he becomes old he found that he couldnt read Quran easily from that book because his sight is becoming weak.

He heard about the water of Zamzam and its advantage of fulfilling the purpose for which it has been drunk. He came to Haj and he drank from Zamzam. He started reading from that small Mushaf of Quran easily and without any sight problems. He achieved what he wanted because he was confident of that and has deep faith in the saying of the prophet [PBUH&F] "The water of Zamzam fulfils the purpose for which it has deep drunk" .

He was also confident and has deep belief in the Quranic sign in which Allah says,
"When my servants ask thee concerning me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he collect on me, let them also with a will listen to my call, and believe in Me. That may walk in the right way" [2:186]

Peace & Mowla bless.

SAHIH BUKHARI-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Volume 4, Book 55, Number 582:
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

The Prophet said, "May Allah bestow His Mercy on the mother of Ishmael! Had she not hastened (to fill her water-skin with water from the Zam-zam well). Zam-zam would have been a stream flowing on the surface of the earth." Ibn 'Abbas further added, "(The Prophet) Abraham brought Ishmael and his mother (to Mecca) and she was suckling Ishmael and she had a water-skin with her.'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Volume 4, Book 55, Number 583:
Narrated Ibn Abbas:

The first lady to use a girdle was the mother of Ishmael. She used a girdle so that she might hide her tracks from Sarah. Abraham brought her and her son Ishmael while she was suckling him, to a place near the Ka'ba under a tree on the spot of Zam-zam, at the highest place in the mosque. During those days there was nobody in Mecca, nor was there any water So he made them sit over there and placed near them a leather bag containing some dates, and a small water-skin containing some water, and set out homeward. Ishmael's mother followed him saying, "O Abraham! Where are you going, leaving us in this valley where there is no person whose company we may enjoy, nor is there anything (to enjoy)?" She repeated that to him many times, but he did not look back at her Then she asked him, "Has Allah ordered you to do so?" He said, "Yes." She said, "Then He will not neglect us," and returned while Abraham proceeded onwards, and on reaching the Thaniya where they could not see him, he faced the Ka'ba, and raising both hands, invoked Allah saying the following prayers:

'O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring dwell in a valley without cultivation, by Your Sacred House (Kaba at Mecca) in order, O our Lord, that they may offer prayer perfectly. So fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and (O Allah) provide them with fruits, so that they may give thanks.' (14.37) Ishmael's mother went on suckling Ishmael and drinking from the water (she had).

When the water in the water-skin had all been used up, she became thirsty and her child also became thirsty. She started looking at him (i.e. Ishmael) tossing in agony; She left him, for she could not endure looking at him, and found that the mountain of Safa was the nearest mountain to her on that land. She stood on it and started looking at the valley keenly so that she might see somebody, but she could not see anybody. Then she descended from Safa and when she reached the valley, she tucked up her robe and ran in the valley like a person in distress and trouble, till she crossed the valley and reached the Marwa mountain where she stood and started looking, expecting to see somebody, but she could not see anybody. She repeated that (running between Safa and Marwa) seven times."

The Prophet said, "This is the source of the tradition of the walking of people between them (i.e. Safa and Marwa). When she reached the Marwa (for the last time) she heard a voice and she asked herself to be quiet and listened attentively. She heard the voice again and said, 'O, (whoever you may be)! You have made me hear your voice; have you got something to help me?" And behold! She saw an angel at the place of Zam-zam, digging the earth with his heel (or his wing), till water flowed from that place. She started to make something like a basin around it, using her hand in this way, and started filling her water-skin with water with her hands, and the water was flowing out after she had scooped some of it."

The Prophet added, "May Allah bestow Mercy on Ishmael's mother! Had she let the Zam-zam (flow without trying to control it) (or had she not scooped from that water) (to fill her water-skin), Zam-zam would have been a stream flowing on the surface of the earth." The Prophet further added, "Then she drank (water) and suckled her child. The angel said to her, 'Don't be afraid of being neglected, for this is the House of Allah which will be built by this boy and his father, and Allah never neglects His people.' The House (i.e. Kaba) at that time was on a high place resembling a hillock, and when torrents came, they flowed to its right and left. She lived in that way till some people from the tribe of Jurhum or a family from Jurhum passed by her and her child, as they (i.e. the Jurhum people) were coming through the way of Kada'. They landed in the lower part of Mecca where they saw a bird that had the habit of flying around water and not leaving it. They said, 'This bird must be flying around water, though we know that there is no water in this valley.' They sent one or two messengers who discovered the source of water, and returned to inform them of the water. So, they all came (towards the water)." The Prophet added, "Ishmael's mother was sitting near the water. They asked her, 'Do you allow us to stay with you?" She replied, 'Yes, but you will have no right to possess the water.' They agreed to that." The Prophet further said, "Ishmael's mother was pleased with the whole situation as she used to love to enjoy the company of the people. So, they settled there, and later on they sent for their families who came and settled with them so that some families became permanent residents there. The child (i.e. Ishmael) grew up and learnt Arabic from them and (his virtues) caused them to love and admire him as he grew up, and when he reached the age of puberty they made him marry a woman from amongst them.

After Ishmael's mother had died, Abraham came after Ishmael's marriage in order to see his family that he had left before, but he did not find Ishmael there. When he asked Ishmael's wife about him, she replied, 'He has gone in search of our livelihood.' Then he asked her about their way of living and their condition, and she replied, 'We are living in misery; we are living in hardship and destitution,' complaining to him. He said, 'When your husband returns, convey my salutation to him and tell him to change the threshold of the gate (of his house).' When Ishmael came, he seemed to have felt something unusual, so he asked his wife, 'Has anyone visited you?' She replied, 'Yes, an old man of so-and-so description came and asked me about you and I informed him, and he asked about our state of living, and I told him that we were living in a hardship and poverty.' On that Ishmael said, 'Did he advise you anything?' She replied, 'Yes, he told me to convey his salutation to you and to tell you to change the threshold of your gate.' Ishmael said, 'It was my father, and he has ordered me to divorce you. Go back to your family.' So, Ishmael divorced her and married another woman from amongst them (i.e. Jurhum).

Then Abraham stayed away from them for a period as long as Allah wished and called on them again but did not find Ishmael. So he came to Ishmael's wife and asked her about Ishmael. She said, 'He has gone in search of our livelihood.' Abraham asked her, 'How are you getting on?' asking her about their sustenance and living. She replied, 'We are prosperous and well-off (i.e. we have everything in abundance).' Then she thanked Allah' Abraham said, 'What kind of food do you eat?' She said. 'Meat.' He said, 'What do you drink?' She said, 'Water." He said, "O Allah! Bless their meat and water." The Prophet added, "At that time they did not have grain, and if they had grain, he would have also invoked Allah to bless it." The Prophet added, "If somebody has only these two things as his sustenance, his health and disposition will be badly affected, unless he lives in Mecca." The Prophet added," Then Abraham said Ishmael's wife, "When your husband comes, give my regards to him and tell him that he should keep firm the threshold of his gate.' When Ishmael came back, he asked his wife, 'Did anyone call on you?' She replied, 'Yes, a good-looking old man came to me,' so she praised him and added. 'He asked about you, and I informed him, and he asked about our livelihood and I told him that we were in a good condition.' Ishmael asked her, 'Did he give you any piece of advice?' She said, 'Yes, he told me to give his regards to you and ordered that you should keep firm the threshold of your gate.' On that Ishmael said, 'It was my father, and you are the threshold (of the gate). He has ordered me to keep you with me.'

Then Abraham stayed away from them for a period as long as Allah wished, and called on them afterwards. He saw Ishmael under a tree near Zamzam, sharpening his arrows. When he saw Abraham, he rose up to welcome him (and they greeted each other as a father does with his son or a son does with his father). Abraham said, 'O Ishmael! Allah has given me an order.' Ishmael said, 'Do what your Lord has ordered you to do.' Abraham asked, 'Will you help me?' Ishmael said, 'I will help you.' Abraham said, Allah has ordered me to build a house here,' pointing to a hillock higher than the land surrounding it." The Prophet added, "Then they raised the foundations of the House (i.e. the Ka'ba). Ishmael brought the stones and Abraham was building, and when the walls became high, Ishmael brought this stone and put it for Abraham who stood over it and carried on building, while Ishmael was handing him the stones, and both of them were saying, 'O our Lord! Accept (this service) from us, Verily, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.' The Prophet added, "Then both of them went on building and going round the Ka'ba saying: O our Lord ! Accept (this service) from us, Verily, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." (2.127)

Anas b. Malik reported: Abu Dharr used to relate that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: The roof of my house was cleft when I was in Mecca and Gabriel descended and opened my heart and then washed it with the water of Zamzam. He then brought a gold basin full of wisdom and faith and after emptying it into my breast, he closed it up. Then taking me by he hand, he ascended with me to th heaven, and when we came to the lowest heaven, Gabriel said to the guardian of the lowest heaven: Open. He asked who was there? He replied. It is Gabriel. He again asked whe he there was someone with him. He replied: Yes, it is Muhammad with me. He was asked if he had been sent for, He (Gabriel) said: Yes. Then he opened (the gate). When we ascended the lowest heaven (I saw) a man seated with parties on his right side and parties on his left side. When he looked up to his right, he laughed and when he looked to his left, he wept. He said: Welcome to the righteous apostle and the righteous son. I asked Gabriel who he was and he replied: He is Adam (peace be upon him) and these parties on his right and on his left are the souls of his descendants. Those of them on his right are the inmates of Paradise and the parties which are on his left side are the inmates of Hell; so when he looked towards his right side, he laughed, and when he looked towards his left side, he wept. Then Gabriel ascended with me to the second heaven. He asked its guardian to open (its gate), and its guardian replied in the same way as the guardian of the lowest heaven had said. He (opened it). Anas b. Malik said: He (the Holy Prophet) mentioned that he found in the heavens Adam, Idris, Jesus, Moses and Abraham (may peace be on all of them), but he did not ascertain as to the nature of their abodes except that he had found Adam in the lowest heaven and Abraham in the sixth heaven. When Gabriel and the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) passed by Idris (peace be upon him) he said: Welcome to the righteous apostle and righteous brother. He (the narrator) said: He then proceeded and said: Who is he? Gabriel replied: It is Idris. Then I passed by Moses (peace be upon him) and he said: Welcome tothe righteous apostle and righteous brother. I said to (Gabriel): Who is he? He replied: It is Moses. Then I passed by Jesus and he said: Welcome to the righteous apostle and righteous brother. I said (to Gabriel): Who is he? He replied: Jesus, son of Mary. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Then I went to Ibrahim (peace be upon him). He said: Welcome to the righteous apostle and righteous son. I asked: Who is he? He (Gabriel) replied: It is Abraham. Ibn Shihab said: Ibn Hazm told me that Ibn 'Abbas and Abd Habba al-Ansari used to say that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Thereafter he ascended with me till I was taken to such a height where I heard the scraping of the pens. Ibn Hazm and Anas told that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Allah then made fifty prayers obligatory for my Ummah and I returned with that and passed by Moses. Moses, (peace be upon him) said: What has thy Lord enjoined on thy people? I said: Fifty prayers have been made obligatory on them. Moses (peace be upon him) said: Return to thy Lord, for thy Ummah would not be able to bear this burden. Then I came back to my Lord and He remitted a portion out of thut. I then again went to Moses (peace be upon him) and informed him about it He said: Return to thy Lord, for thy Ummah shall not be able to bear this burden. I then went back to my Lord and He said: They are five and at the same time fifty, and what has been said will not be changed. I then returned to Moses and he said: Go back to thy Lord. whereupon I said: I feel ashamed of my Lord. Gabriel then travelled with me till we came to the farthest lote-tree Many a colour had covered it which I do not know. Then I was admitted to Paradise and saw in it domes of pearls, and its soil of musk.

Book 001, Number 0314:
Anas b. Malik reported on the authority of Malik b. Sa sa', perhaps a person of his tribe, that the Prophet of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: I was near the House (i. e. Ka'bah) in a state between sleep and wakefulness when I heard someone say: He is the third among the two persons. Then he came to me and took me with him. Then a golden basin containing the water of Zamzam was brought to me and my heart was opened up to such and such (part). Qatada said: I asked him who was with me (i e. the narrator) and what he meant by such and such (part). He replied: (It means that it was opened) up to the lower part of his abdomen (Then the hadith continues): My heart was extracted and it was washed with the water of Zamzam and then it was restored in its original position, after which it was filled with faith and wisdom. I was then brought a white beast which is called al-Buraq, bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. Its stride was as long as the eye could reach. I was mounted on it, and then we went forth till we reached the lowest heaven. Gabriel asked for the (gate) to be opened, and it was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel. It was again said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad (may peace be upon him). It was said: Has he been sent for? He (Gabriel) said: Yes. He (the Prophet) said: Then (the gate) was opened for us (and it was said): Welcome unto him! His is a blessed arrival. Then we came to Adam (peace be upon him). And he (the narrator) narrated the whole account of the hadith. (The Holy Prophet) observed that he met Jesus in the second heaven, Yahya (peace be on both of them) in the third heaven, Yusuf in the third, Idris in the fourth, Harun in the fifth (peace and blessings of Allah be upon them). Then we travelled on till we reached the sixth heaven and came to Moses (peace be upon him) and I greeted him and he said: Welcome unto righteous brother and righteous prophet. And when I passed (by him) he wept, and a voice was heard saying: What makes thee weep? He said: My Lord, he is a young man whom Thou hast sent after me (as a prophet) and his followers will enter Paradise in greater numbers than my followers. Then we travelled on till we reached the seventh heaven and I came to Ibrahim. He (the narrator) narrat- ed in this hadith that the Prophet of Allah (may peace be upon him) told that he saw four rivers which flowed from (the root of the lote-tree of the farthest limits): two manifest rivers and two hidden rivers. I said: ' Gabriel! what are these rivers? He replied: The two hidden rivers are the rivers of Paradise, and as regards the two manifest ones, they are the Nile and the Euphrates. Then the Bait-ul-Ma'mur was raised up to me. I said: O Gabriel! what is this? He replied: It is the Bait-ul-Ma'mur. Seventy thousand angels enter into it daily and, after they come out, they never return again. Two vessels were then brought to me. The first one contained wine and the second one contained milk, and both of them were placed before me. I chose milk. It was said: You did right. Allah will guide rightly through you your Ummah on the natural course. Then fifty prayers daily were made obligatory for me. And then he narrated the rest of the hadith to the end.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

........The Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) again rode and came to the House, and offered the Zuhr prayer at Mecca. He came to the tribe of Abd al-Muttalib, who were supplying water at Zamzam, and said: Draw water. O Bani 'Abd al-Muttalib; were it not that people would usurp this right of supplying water from you, I would have drawn it along with you. So they handed him a basket and he drank from it.

SAHIH BUKHARI-

And then he narrated the rest of the hadith to the end.

........The Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) again rode and came to the House, and offered the Zuhr prayer at Mecca.
