The Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications has said the media innovations centre, which was commissioned last Friday, is aimed at shaping the future of the media industry in the country.

In an email response on Friday, Prof Lawrence Pintak, the dean of Graduate School of Media and Communications, said the Media Challenge Initiative Media Hub is a regional project that supports innovators and explores new ideas and opportunities to support the mainstream media transition to the next phase.

The Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications (GSMC) and The John F. Kennedy School of
Government at Harvard University (HKS) launched the Transforming Leadership for 21st Century Africa Programme on September 15, 2019 at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nairobi. This marks the second consecutive year GSMC and HKS have collaborated to deliver the leadership programme, which helps executives from Africa, exercise leadership amid uncertainty with skill and effectiveness, while communicating for impact.

As the Nation Media Group (NMG) marks its 50th anniversary, it would be too limiting to perceive this occasion as a mere milestone in a history of a media organization, no matter how successful. The Nation’s path has been closely entwined with the history of Kenya, East Africa, and the entire continent during a period filled with momentous developments.

When the Aga Khan decided to start a newspaper in Kenya 50 years ago, his vision was to print an independent and honest publication that would help nurture an emerging democracy.

It was 1960 and the wind of change was blowing across Africa, with many of its countries just breaking free from the shackles of colonialism.

Over the past 50 years, the history of the Kenyan nation is inextricably intertwined with that of the Nation Media Group, whose story starts with the acquisition of Kiswahili publication Taifa Leo in 1959.

The Nation Media Group is exactly 50 years today(Thursday) and the highlight of the celebrations, the Pan Africa media Conference was opened on Thursday morning by president Mwai Kibaki. At the opening ceremony, the president lauded the role played by the media in opening up the democratic space.

18 March 2010 - Nairobi, Kenya - His Highness the Aga Khan, Chancellor of Aga Khan University, today announced the establishment of a Graduate School of Media and Communications in East Africa.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the inaugural Pan Africa Media Conference to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Nation Media Group, which was founded by the Aga Khan, His Highness stated that the School will be dedicated to advancing excellence in media performance and the strengthening of ethical media practices throughout the developing world.
