MUSLIM UNIVERSITY TO BE ESTABLISHED BY AGA KHAN - 2008-01-24

2008, January 24: Muslim university to be established by Aga Khan - KARACHI, Pakistan (APP): A Muslim university would be established by the Aga Khan and the Ismaili community with a total investment of about $ 500 million, the president of the Aga Khan Ismaili Council, Iqbal Waljee, said in Karachi on Thursday. He said 1,000 acres of land has been acquired for the purpose on Super Highway in Karachi. The Aga Khan will lay the foundation stone, he said adding that acadamic activity will start from 2011. FIRST VISIT TO FOLLOWERS IN KARACHI - 1957-08-01

Shortly after assuming the reins of Imamat His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan started on a whirlwind tour of Ismailis. Before his auspicious arrival at Karachi, the birth place of his grandfather, in August 1957, Imam-e-Zamam visited Ismaili centres at London and Paris. Mr President, your unfaltering encouragement has enabled us to bring the Aga Khan University into being. To give the first private University in Pakistan your support was a bold initiative and one to which I wish to offer the fullest recognition.

PARIS Dec 16: The Aga Khan's eldest daughter, Princess Zahra Aga Khan, 26, is to marry Mark Boyden, a 35 year old British Management Consultant, his office confirmed on Monday.
The Happy couple will tie the knot early next summer. Princess Zahra, born in Geneva, studied in Switzerland before taking a diploma in Third World studies at Harvard. She currently works as a secreatary for her father.

Boyden, who has an MBA from Oxford, specialises in business ethics, and = also manages the family estate. The Aga Khan has two other children, Prince Rahim and Prince Hussain. - --AFP

First let me say how honoured I feel by the reception you have given me this afternoon. I have been most moved by the kindness of your remarks today and by the warmth of this city's welcome to myself and my family throughout our stay in Karachi.

The city of Karachi, as you have observed, has some very special and very beloved associations for me. It has given me the greatest pleasure, therefore, to find the remarkable developments which have taken place since I was here in 1954.
