O príncipe Aga Khan admite investir na saúde e em serviços de protecção social em Portugal. O PÚBLICO sabe que no discurso que o líder da comunidade Ismaili profere ao princípio da tarde desta quarta-feira no Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros, após a assinatura do acordo que estabelece a sede global da sua comunidade em Portugal, essa questão será referida.

Aga Khan estabelece um prazo de cinco anos para serem identificados projectos a serem financiados em Portugal, concretamente nas áreas da saúde e protecção social, seguindo, aliás, o trabalho desenvolvido pela Fundação Aga Khan já estabelecida no nosso país. Chegou-se à assinatura do acordo, após um ano de contactos e um trabalho diplomático desenvolvido nos últimos seis meses. Foi uma tarefa trabalhosa. O Canadá, mais concretamente a cidade de Ontário, onde actualmente está sediado o AKFED Fundo Aga Khan para o Desenvolvimento Económico (na sigla inglesa AKFED) e um parque industrial foi um duro competidor de Portugal.

Para além da instalação no nosso país da sede global, agora a funcionar com 200 funcionários em Chantilly, nos arredores de Paris, a residência oficial de Aga Khan ficará também em Portugal. A localização das duas instalações não estará decidida ou, pelo menos, ainda não foi comunicada às autoridades portuguesas.

“A comunidade Ismaili Imamat é um exemplo de tolerância e tem uma rede importante de contactos”, referiu, ao PÚBLICO, o ministro de Estado e dos Negócios Estrangeiros, Rui Machete. “É uma aposta numa entidade religiosa que se caracteriza pela sua tolerância”, enfatiza o chefe da diplomacia portuguesa. Os muçulmanos Shia Imami Ismailis, geralmente conhecidos por Ismailis, e calculados em 15 milhões, pertencem ao ramo Shia do Islão. Durante a sua história, esta comunidade foi incluindo populações de diferentes tradições culturais e está radicada principalmente na Ásia Central e do Sul, na África Austral, Médio Oriente, Europa e América do Norte, num total de 25 países.

As instituições da rede Aga Khan operam através do AKFED em vários domínios e países. Das empresas industriais no Afeganistão, Burkina Faso, Costa do Marfim, Mali, Paquistão, Quénia, República Democrática do Congo, Senegal, Tajisquistão, Tanzânia e Uganda aos serviços financeiros. Neste último caso, pelo controlo do Habib Bank Ltd, o maior banco privado paquistanês, do Development Credit Bank da Índia, e de entidades financeiras na República de Quirgiz, no Bangladesh e no Quénia. A rede também actua na promoção turística, detém a companhia aérea Air Burkina e meios de comunicação no Quénia, Uganda e Tanzânia.

Já a Fundação Aga Khan tem projectos em vários domínios, da educação ao desenvolvimento rural, da promoção de cidadania ao ambiente, da saúde aos programas de micro finança. Este último projecto, desenvolve-se ao nível da comunidade, destina-se a proporcionar o início de uma actividade económica, dirige-se às classes mais desfavorecidas e às micro e pequenas empresas, operando no Afeganistão, Paquistão e Tajiquistão. Por fim, tem uma rede de universidades, a maioria na área das Ciências de Saúde.

Uma diversidade de interesses de grande densidade económica e social. “É natural que sendo uma instituição com um orçamento anual entre os 600 e os 900 milhões de euros, traga algo para o país”, antevê o ministro Machete.
