Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am pleased to inform you that this year the Aga Khan University celebrates another milestone, the 15th Anniversary of the establishment of AKU in East Africa.

To commemorate this occasion, the Chancellor, His Highness the Aga Khan, has graciously consented to preside at the 2015 Convocation ceremonies as follows:

• Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Tuesday, 24th February
• Kampala, Uganda – Thursday, 26th February
• Nairobi, Kenya – Monday, 2nd March

Convocations are the University’s time-honoured tradition to confer degrees and diplomas to students who have successfully completed their programme. The focus is on celebrating the academic achievements of our graduates with their families. So as not to overwhelm the small number of students and their families, the convocation ceremonies in East Africa will be much smaller than those held at our Karachi campus. As this is the first convocation attended by the Chancellor in East Africa, it will enable the Chancellor to engage with the graduates and faculty in a more intimate setting. Therefore, no invitations will be extended to guests from outside East Africa. Guests from within East Africa will be very limited. We realize that these decisions may be disappointing to those who would have liked to attend. We hope you will understand our objective to provide an appropriate experience to the graduates, their families and the faculty at this convocation.

For students, faculty, staff, the Jamat, and friends of AKU worldwide who would like to view the ceremony, we are planning a live webcast of one of the ceremonies. We will share more information once arrangements have been finalised.

The impact AKU is making would not be possible without your support. On behalf of the University, its Board of Trustees, students, faculty and staff, we convey our deep gratitude to you for your continued support.

With warm regards.

Yours sincerely,

Firoz Rasul
