Agha Khan University's Centre of English Language Karachi has won British Council commendation World Aware Business Award 2002 in recognition of its services for promoting English language in back areas of Gilgit, Chitral and Tajikistan.This reward was received by Sabahat Khan Tartari, senior member of the Agha Khan university and Associate Prof Muhammad Zafar of Centre of English Language from a senior official of the British Council. Sabahat and Prof Zafar are currently doing their post-graduation from WarWick university in the United Kingdom.
This reward had already been awarded to at least 80 institutes, Non-Governmental Organisations for their contribution for innovative and sustained commercial activities in many developing countries, Sabahat Khan told APP on Friday.
She said the aim of the award was to recognize the vital role which commercial activities play in supporting economic and social progress in developing countries of the world.
Special teams visited target areas and imparted basic English education to the students selected in co-operation with Aga Khan centres in Gilgit, Chitral and Tajikistan.
Sabahat is doing here post-graduation in English Language and multi-media from WarWick University while Prof Zafar was doing post-graduation in English for special purposes from the same university.
Their studies are being sponsored by Agha Khan University.
