Michael Curtis became Britain's youngest national newspaper editor, aged 34, when he took over Charles Dickens' old chair at the News Chronicle in Fleet Street in 1954...The intention of the Aga Khan was to buy an existing newspaper, thus avoiding the expense of acquiring a building, plant and equipment. But the English Press, owners of the Sunday Post, turned down Mr Curtis's purchase offer on grounds they could not possibly sell to 'an Asian' -- the Aga Khan.
