L'Emir Karim Agha Khan, guide spirituel des Musulmans Ismaélites à travers le monde, a visité aujourd'hui le mausolée du président disparu de la Syrie, Feu Hafez al-Assad, où il a déposé une couronne de fleurs et récité al-Fatiha pour son âme.

L'Emir Agha Khan, qui visite depuis vendredi dernier la Syrie, s'était entretenu hier avec cheikh Ahmad Hassoun, Mufti d'Alep, sur les moyens de consolider la coopération entre les peuples du monde islamique et l'importance de l'apprentissage de la culture musulmane.

Can architecture be a way of bridging the gap between Western and Islamic cultures? For most of us, the need to build that bridge is something we've only recently become aware of. But someone who has long been trying is the Aga Khan.

Earlier this month, the eighth triennial Aga Khan Awards for Architecture were presented at the Citadel of Aleppo, Syria. To be sure, the awards, like any architectural prizes, are not the stuff of headlines, especially in the West outside the Ismaili community and industry circles. And yet, it's interesting how these things link up these days, how a ceremony far away reaches across the cultural and geographical ethers, from West Africa to Southeast Asia, Aswan to Edmonton.

O arquitecto Geoffrey Bawa, do Sri Lanka, foi ontem distinguido com o Chairman's Award dos Prémios Aga Khan, numa cerimónia que decorreu na histórica cidadela de Aleppo, na Síria. Atribuído pelo Aga Kahn Trust for Culture a arquitectos que desevolvam conceitos de construção consentâneos com as necessidades e aspirações das sociedades islâmicas, foram ainda premiados nove projectos, dos 427 que se candidataram a estes prémios trienais.

His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam and Spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, has concluded his eight-day visit to Syria with a second round of extensive discussions with Syrian President Bashir Al-Assad.

The Agha Khan and Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa Miro also signed a framework Development Agreement between the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and Syria.

The agreement will facilitate the effective functioning and optimum utilisation of human and financial resources that the AKDN would mobilise for Syria. It also establishes an AKDN representative office in Damascus.
