AGA KHAN PROMOTES NEW CONCEPT IN THIRD WORLD DEVELOPMENT - 1982-07-30
Posted March 24th, 2010 by heritageAn agreement providing for the restructuring and expansion of the activities of the Diamond Trust of Kenya Limited (DTK) into the field of merchant banking was signed on 30 July, 1982 at Aiglemont, the Aga Khan's Secretariat near Paris, by DTK, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Samuel Montagu and Co. Limited.
His Highness the Aga Khan, who has had a long and close association with the company, was present at the signing ceremony attended by His Excellency Mr. John Kimani, Kenya's Ambassador to France.

I have rarely spoken publicly in the developing world or in the industrialised world, or indeed in any international forum about the Press. I wish to take this exceptional occasion to pay a deep personal gratitude to a truly remarkable African who was himself at one time a journalist, then who led his country's struggle for independence and who finally became the first President of Kenya, and an outstanding African statesman. I refer to Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

The problem in Africa assumes urgent political dimensions if only because expectations are so much higher than they used to be. This is quite understandable when you remember the hopes that were raised during the battle for independence.

Present at the reception were Prince Amyn Mohamed, the Commissioner of Insurance, Mr. Adam H. Ali, the Provincial Commissioner, Coast Province, and His Worship the Mayor of Mombasa.
