New Curragh development receives high praise after official opening

An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar hailed the new facilities at the Curragh as the track’s official opening ceremony took place during racing on Sunday.

The centrepiece of the redeveloped racecourse is the Aga Khan Stand, which can cater for up to 6,000 people over four levels, and the Aga Khan himself was on hand to take part in the celebrations.

On 9 July in Porto, Prince Amyn Aga Khan was awarded the City’s Medal of Honour by the Mayor of the Porto Municipality, Rui Moreira who presided over a ceremony at the Casa do Roseiral, in the Gardens of the Palácio de Cristal. The medal was presented in honour of "a great patron of the arts." Prince Amyn Aga Khan has a close relationship with several museums, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

Hosted by the Global Centre for Pluralism, the Annual Pluralism Lecture provides an opportunity to learn from individuals whose work has made a practical difference in the world. The 2019 lecture will explore the connections between pluralism and global efforts to advance peace, justice, and sustainable development.

2009, July 24: The restoration of Forodhani Park in Zanzibar's historic stone town has been completed, thanks to a $2.4 million (over Sh3 billion) funding by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC).The popular outing place, one of the attractive features in the Isles will be inaugurated later this month. The restoration project has transformed the historic park - one of the last open spaces in the densely populated world heritage site - and upgraded its social and recreational amenities.

Talking about the wonderful tradition of volunteering services and of volunteers, he said '..there are some that I see with my eyes and some that I feel with my heart'. . The Daily Nation (Nairobi - Kenya) on 19 July 2002 also mentions the presence of H.H. The Aga Khan at the International Investment Round table meeting in Dar es Salaam on previous day with a photo of both the Aga Khan and World Bank President James Wolfensohn.

2009, June 12: Cambridge, U.K. Prince Aga Khan was recognised with the distinction of Doctor of Divinity for his work in promoting healthcare and education in developing countries at the Cambridge University.

Michael Curtis became Britain's youngest national newspaper editor, aged 34, when he took over Charles Dickens' old chair at the News Chronicle in Fleet Street in 1954...The intention of the Aga Khan was to buy an existing newspaper, thus avoiding the expense of acquiring a building, plant and equipment. But the English Press, owners of the Sunday Post, turned down Mr Curtis's purchase offer on grounds they could not possibly sell to 'an Asian' -- the Aga Khan.



SOS has opened playgrounds for the children in the camps. Initially, the youngsters were bemused by the activities on offer and some even went as far as trying to break them up. But once they were taught how to use swings and slides, they had a whale of a time, and Salimah now reckons the play areas have been one of the Pakistani project's biggest successes.
